Coffee Brake: Friday Drives

Okay, it is Friday, time for a Coffee Brake.  The question of the day is: What did you drive today, how many miles, and did you enjoy it?
I'll go first.  I've drive my 65 Buick SportWagon for about 7 miles and it has been superb.  Lots of floaty boat steering, grunty V8 accelertion, 2-speeds (TWO SPEEDS), and smiles and thumbs ups -- this thing attracts old dudes as gas stations like free tubes of Bengay.

A Rant: Ugly on Porpoise

Coffee Brake: I used to think that Tesla built the ugliest SUV on the planet with its 2015 release of the Model X because it was just ugly enough to steal the prize from the long time winning Honda Crosstour.  The Model X looks like a perfect combination of the Model S and a bloated whale carcass, and it was the winner of the S.U.V. (Super Ugly Vehicle) prize until I spied something in traffic that caught my eye like a festering gangrenous middle finger on a cellist.  I winced like I'd just noticed a half eaten clump of short 'n' curly hair in my fish taco -- and my pyloric valve sealed shut like an airlock on the International Space Station. They call it a coupe, but the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is neither a coupe nor a car..tis a monstrosity that belongs in Davy Jones' locker.

DT Does The LA Auto Show 2017

Another year, another awesome LA Auto Show, where faceless OEMs attempt to persuade the motoring press (and the motoring public) to plunk down hard cash their latest offering.  But, let me tell you something...I will drink your fabulous mocha-chino, but I won't spend $600/month on an all inclusive subscription plan...but I'm thinking about it because it is 2am and I can't sleep.

Coffee Brake: Weekend

I've got some non-car related stuff this weekend but I also need to sort some stuff on the Mustang that lives in my garage...but enough about me...what are you doing this weekend?

Wurst, Cars: My blitz through the BMW Museum

Wurst, Cars: My blitz through the BMW Museum - by Kaibeezy.

Last week I spent, um... yeesh, about 20 hours in transit for a 3 hour meeting in Munich. By the time you add up the 3-hours it should have taken to get to Edinburgh, then the extra couple of hours it *did* take due to all the construction, plus waiting around in the airport twice, 5 hours in the air, taxi and S-Bahn rides, bit of walking, and then the convenient but mediocre hotels, it's not glamorous jet-setting by any stretch. That said, there were a couple of highlights, things Munich is famous for and didn't disappoint: cars and food.

Coffee Brake: Weekend Plans

I will spend most of this next weekend on a soccer field coaching my daughter's team and refereeing other matches, but I'm sure you guys have projects to do...so let me live vicariously through your garage work!

What are you doing this weekend?

Coffee Brake: Mystery Quiz

DT E-i-C Vince: I'd like to apologize for the light postings this week because I've been travelling for work, but I'll try and make up for it with this next little nugget of a Coffee Brake mystery quiz. This is an extraordinary little building in the center of the image (click to make it larger) but I'd like you guys to tell my why it is so interesting.

DT Trip Report: 2017 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

It doesn't matter what they call it...the Monterey Historics, the Rolex Motorsports Reunion, the Laguna Seca Monster Jam or the Bay Area Histrionics -- this is the ultimate car show.  It starts with the dirt parking lot, that is this ridiculous collection of million dollar exotics and classics parked on mole hits, and continues to the track that is alive with the sounds of classic combustion.  See the full photo album here.

Coffee Brake: Shoe Shopping With Kaibeezy

Time for DT's Coffee Brake, a break from the mundane, by Editor Vince: A few weeks ago I had chance to spend some time DT's resident logo guru Kaibeezy.  For reasons that escape me (and I cautiously neglected to inquire) Kaibeezy was without shoes, or at least without sneakers.  So, we went shopping.

DT's 5th Birthday

Can you believe that Daily Turismo has been around for 5 years?  I can't!  It seems like only yesterday that DT was a little bald baby sitting in my lap and throwing up on me, but not it talks back, swears, and spends most of the afternoon in time-out.  Anyway, DT is turning 5 years old on Monday July 17th, so we are going to do 5 days of awesome 5s.  Yup.  All things 5.  Expect lots of BMWs 5ers, maybe some 5 year old cars...cars for 5 year olds, 5ths of bourbon...etc.  Let's kick it off with a retro DT badge and some 5-spoke alloys with a 5-lug wheel.

Coffee Brake: Summer School

Welcome to Coffee Brake, where we take a break from the mundane and explore the urbane.  Tuesday of this past week was the first day of summer for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere and the sunshine (plus long days) are very welcome.  Of course then i'm going to talk about the best cars for summer...because that is what we do around here.  Things happen.  We talk. Blah blah...yeah. I will have the audacity to suggest that all you need for a summer car is a manual gearbox and a convertible top...but you might have other ideas.

Coffee Brake: The Yellow Sun

Welcome to Coffee Brake, where we take a break from the mundane and explore the outer limits of the mind.  I was being cheeky in an earlier post today when I asked the question "is the sun yellow"...but this is indeed an actual real question.  When measured by optical wizardry equipment the sun measures as pretty dang close to white as you can get, but people draw the sun as yellow...so here we've got something that people see everyday but they describe in a totally unrealistic way...which brings me to today's topic -- are BMW's good cars?

Coffee Brake: Q&A with Frank from InspectX

DT E-i-C Vince: For this week's Coffee Brake, I sat down with Frank Kosarek from InspectX and asked him about mobile pre-purchase inspections.

DailyTurismo: Tell us the a bit about the steps for the perfect Pre-Purchase Inspection.

Frank Kosarek from InspectX: Buying a private-party car is an exciting concept for an enthusiast. Not only can you find rare, low-mileage examples, but without a middleman, you can score an incredible car for thousands less (like on DT).

Here’s the trouble––a dealership stands behind any car they sell. A private seller doesn’t. That means it’s up to you to verify the quality of the car you’re buying.

In comes the pre-purchase inspection (PPI), which is a mechanical and cosmetic check that you can order on any car for peace of mind.
