1986 Ford F250 Diesel vs 1987 Chevrolet Corvette

This next double feature comes from DT tipper/reader/commenter Art who writes: Thinking about shuffling up the stable a bit in the next few months to shake off the COVID-19 Blues... selling my boat and truck, along with a motorcycle and at least one other car (yes I have issues).  $5k budget for the next fun car.... First up is this 1986 Ford F250 Lariat Diesel offered for $4200 in Preston, CT via craigslist.

Art says: love 80s F150s... this one with the non turbo diesel will be slow but I bet its fun to drive. Airy cabs, basically a pencil for an A pillar, and one finger light steering.

  1. The C4 gets my vote. Every time i see one street parked i veer closer to see if it's a manual. It almost always ends up with me being a little disappointed and the car being an auto.

    1. I used to have a '86 Corvette myself - it's probably the car I miss most of all the cars I've sold. The automatic doesn't give up much behind a TPI motor - these motors don't like to rev and feel more at home in a truck, and these cars had a very good automatic but a bit of a weird manual (at least until they got the ZF 6 speed).

  3. I'd go with the truck. The wood burl trim (wish it were real, but I know better to expect that in a Ford) and the original stereo just do it for me in a way a low-HP corvette don't. C4s are alright and slowly getting more appreciation, but I'd rock that truck on the daily.

  4. I need better choices.....rofl...... not a c-4 fan but it does win this one.

  5. Corvette for sure because I already have an '07 Ford Super Duty F-250 Turbo Diesel in the driveway. That being said, the fact that the seller of the truck didn't even bother to straighten out the floor mat, yet cared enough to put a bright red, aftermarket handle on the 4x4 handle deserves props.
