Bronze Age: 1981 AMC Eagle Kammback DL-50

The AMC Eagle was a neat looking 4X4 compact crossover-car thing that beat the modern market to the compact crossover and defined traditional labeling of the time. The sedan/wagon/coupe versions were built on the AMC Concord chassis, but the 2-door SX/4, Kammback, & Sundancer models were built on the AMC Spirit subcompact chassis...but the important part is that they were powered by big inline-6s and could offroad like a Jeep. Today's next feature is a solid gold oldie in more ways than one. Find this 1981 AMC Eagle Kammback DL-50 here on eBay bidding for $4900 with one day to go, located in Benson, AZ.

1981 AMC Eagle Kammback.

Stock/original car with 258 6cyl automatic full-time 4wheel drive.

I’ve owned this car for the last 12 years and consider it part of the family. It has been off the road for the last two years but I’ve maintained it in running condition. Due to the lack of use I feel it’s time to let it go to someone else who can enjoy it like we have. I would consider this car a driver or great candidate for restoration. By no means is this a perfect car, it will need some love and TLC. Engine and transmission run good and the car runs and drives. The body and floor pan are rust free and very solid, however, it is missing carpet, the lower passenger seat is missing fabric and the tires are aged. It does not have the original bumper cap ends as most of these are deteriorated. I also have the original Owners Manual and Maintenance schedule reference guide. The car is located in Benson, AZ but is currently titled in Washington state as I had lived there for awhile and have not changed it to Arizona. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

  1. My old roomate had one of these. She loved that car. It was comfortable, went everywhere, had lots of room. It broke her heart when she had to put it to sleep. Brakes shot, rearend blown,AC dead, and cooling system failed. All at the same time. Not bad for an AMC with nearly 250k miles on it.

    1. that old roommate sounds like a keeper. Are you sure you should have let her go? A Jeep is easy to find but a roommate that likes them is much harder to find as I am finding out.

  2. When a Gremlin is just too mainstream for you. The ultimate in obscure off-roading.

    1. Basically an all wheel drive Gremlin. Looks like it would be fun.
