38k Miles, Fridge White: 1990 Toyota Camry LE

The second generation (V20) Toyota Camry was built from 1986 through 1992 is massive quantities and used as a basic transportation device for millions of people.  It wasn't an exciting car by any stretch of the imagination, but it did turn many domestic car purchasers into future Toyota buyers with its quiet commitment to reliability and non-fussiness.  Most have hundreds of thousands of miles or have been recycled into tuna cans, but this next example has a shockingly low 38k miles on the odo and looks amazing for its age. Find this 1990 Toyota Camry LE offered for $6,500 in Long Beach, CA via craigslist.

  1. My sister ran one of those for over 25 years, and it was mechanically bulletproof. She didn't put a huge amount of miles on it in that time, but by the time she let it go, the tinworms had made large sections of it disappear.

  2. That's about the last year for that generation. Should practically be a perpetual motion machine with those miles.

  3. The driver's seat cushion has a suspiciously squished bolster for 38k on the odo....

  4. I had a v-6 5 speed manual version of this (1989) for about 18 years. 98% of the time it had enough room, comfort, economy and power to do whatever was asked of it. I knew it was time to junk it when I pulled up to a traffic light in the cold and rain. I saw steam from the warm brakes/rain rising up through the right fender... dang tinworms..

This and the generation of the Camry were undoubtedly the best made Toyota's of the modern era (Landcruiser excluded). 1996 saw the de-contenting trend begin with all the Japanese manufacturers, and things like gold plated electrical connectors, high quality plastics, and highly servicable/rebuildable mechanical components were tossed on the scrap heap for the bean counters.
