G35X Powertrain Swapped: 1972 Datsun 521 Pickup

The Infiniti G35 we posted the other day was well received because it combines the best characteristics of a reliable modern car with a nicely depreciated price curve.  The only thing it was missing was the cool factor of a moderately rusty pickup truck we go, another horrorod. Find this 1972 Datsun 521 Pickup with G35X powertrain offered for $6900 in Denver, CO via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

From the seller:

1972 Datsun

fuel: gas
title status: clean
transmission: automatic

VQ35DE Engine, transmission, drivetrain, coil over suspension, front and rear subframe, and 4wheel disc brakes from a 2004 G35X. Clean title in my name.

See a better way to drive a sweet pickup?

  1. I would really like some better under the truck pictures. I like the idea, but don't like the all wheel drive or the auto tranny.

  2. g35x had a 25F 75R power split but as noted the auto is a bummer. I'd love this to still look like the stock datsun.

  3. I thinks its dope..he pulled off a pretty complex swap but left it kind of ghetto kind of build!

  4. I bought same truck even color in the early 90's for $50 bucks had a blown head gasket had a spare L-16 from my Nickledime sold it after motor swap for $750 Tiny cab was not sorry to see it go.

  5. Super cool build, but the wheels look like they're from a Harbor Freight trailer and the offset is terrible.
