Only in Florida: 1980 Buick Skylark Limited

I'm not ashamed of my love of the Buick Skylark. It is such a piece of automotive history -- from the beginning when it shared a platform with the Pontiac Tempest and Olds F-85, and then when it was another piece of the GM A-body arsenal -- it has always been such a badass piece of American iron...except...wait.  What sort of unholy beast have we summoned from the depths of the 10th circle of X-body haides have we found?  Why...just why...did the post fuel crisis corporate bean counters at GM try and convince a single Buick buyer that this was a Skylark?  They may have well put a Corvette badge on a Chevette and lipstick on an anteater. Find this 1980 Buick Skylark Limited offered for $1000 in Port Charlotte, FL via craiglsist. Tip from Dascpcu.

  1. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the original 1953 Skylark, along with the Cadillac Eldorado and Oldsmobile Fiesta were the absolute stars of GM in 1953 as "personal sports" cars! Their curved windshields were a first for GM and their luxury appointments were reserved for a very few buyers. My uncle was a Buick dealer. His wife drove her white '53 Skylark until the new Skylarks came out in '61. From then until 1987 the '53 was relegated to show room princess and parade car.

  2. What a transverse mounted front wheel drive POS. And to boot it is covered in velour. Haysoos Christy that was the nadir of American auto design. I want to wipe it from my hard drive!

Sorry Bud, but there's no awesomeness lurking in this car. Interesting to see one, though.

  4. Idk, 4.9 caddy and a fiero 5spd shouldnt be too hard to cram in there.

    1. Or a supercharged 3800. The only thing that ruins the sleeper potential is that people might think it's rear wheel drive, and the combination of old, RWD, and still running is always suspect.
