Good Idea: 1966 Buick SportWagon

As a fellow fan (and owner) of home made junk and the Buick SportWagon, I have to admit that I am intrigued by this next car.  The concept of a shift-it-yourself Buick Sportwagon with some Wildcat GrandSport style grill is cool...but the DIY interior and manual single piston drum brakes hold this thing back...well..those brakes won't hold much back...but you get my drift.  With some TLC this could be a winner. Find this 1966 Buick SportWagon offered for $8500 Langhorne, PA via craigslist. Tip from ME.

From the seller:
1966 Buick wagon
condition: good
cylinders: 8 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
paint color: custom
size: full-size
title status: clean
transmission: manual
type: wagon
This wagon runs great, plenty of get up and go. 340 V 8 engine, 4 barrel carburetor, 3 speed trans on the floor. Basically it is an original car with custom paint and interior and bucket seats. Dual exhaust sounds good. Engine runs strong no pings ticks or smoke nice and tight. Aluminum mag type wheels with new tires. New springs front and back with air shocks. No rust out nice and soled. A very reasonable asking price of $8,500. Car is in Doylestown PA

  1. As this is a 3-on-the-floor,it makes me wonder if this wasn't born as a manual transmission car with the 3 being originally on the-tree? If so, it made for a much easier transition (cut hole in floor, add shifter). As a former owner, I always wanted to turn my (now the E-o-C's) sportwagon into a 5 seater using Skylark buckets and gran sport center console. (Hey, its what pipe dreams are made of)

    1. I actually prefer the bench seat in the middle and it has been handy several times for that extra passenger. Besides, bucket seats are overkill for a car that handles turns like the Goodyear blimp!!

    1. You'll have to get pics from EoC, but I can tell you from our frequent contacts that their family is having a blast with it. Ultimate beach cruiser and attention getter. The kids love it, but...when you wife even likes your old car better than the newer car that it's replacing...that's a huge step in the right direction.
