Slow Is The New Fast: 1976 Fiat X1/9

I had a friend who was a fellow speed junkie/car guy, but he swore up and down (actually, he swore a lot...probably too much...and drank like aaaanyway... I digress) that the most fun he ever had in a car was when he owned a Fiat X1/9.  The little 1.3 liter engine pushed out something less than 75 horsepower, but you had to use each and every single one of those squirrels in cages to keep up with traffic and it was a blast.  I'm not so convinced...but I'd give it a try for this price. Find this 1976 Fiat X1/9 here on eBay offered for $2995 buy-it-now located in Antioch, CA with 5 days to go.

  1. The X1/9 was a car that really caught my eye back in the 70s. I was still in college when it appeared, but I dreamed of buying one on graduation. Sadly, practical matters interfered with that dream. This car looks like a good deal, as long as it is rust-free as claimed. I imagine these are not too hard to keep running. Although I would rather have either the original skinny bumpers or the later 1500cc with 5-speed, the price on this one is very attractive. (Un)Luckily for me, California is a long haul from where I am in the Great White North.

  2. For me, in the early 80s, the wedge shape and the Bertone badges were all I needed as these features were also shared with one Lamborghini Countach.

  4. When I see these, I always remember a buxom old girlfriend telling me about her and her girlfriends teasing truckers by driving topless in Florida when in college.
