Crush or Keep? 1980 Chevrolet Chevette

Let's say someone gives you $1000.  What do you do with it? Do you squirrel it away in your piggy back for a rainy day or the inevitable health costs of a retired octogenarian? Scratch that...anybody who drives the cars recommended on this website isn't gonna save his cash or survive through their 80s (if the leaky fumes don't kill you the prehistoric safety standards will perforate your spleen like a blunderbuss...but I digress.)  ANYWAY, if you had that $1000, you could do worse than to spend it on this 1980 Chevrolet Chevette offered for $1000 in Altanta, Joe-Jah via craigslist. Tip from Matt C.

From the seller:
1980 Chevy
fuel: gas
title status: missing
transmission: manual

Not many of these left everyone had one or rode in one back in the day. This car is a car that was sitting and destined to be crushed. I have brought it back to the point that it is almost road ready once more. It has new tires. New ignition module. New plugs. New wires. New water pump. Pulled and cleaned tank and lines . All it needs now is a master cylinder an accelerator pump and a windshield this one is cracked. Original paint 4cyl 5spd runs good doesn't smoke these are supposed to get 40 miles to the gallon. Bill of sale and current registration. Asking $1000.00

Tipper Matt C writes: OK, maybe it does have A/C, but the email title came "Chevette" by Audio Adrenaline. This one has a bit of a thrashed interior and looks like it needs a bit more work to get on the road (whether you want to use it as a hipster commuter or have a deranged engine swap in mind...) but the exterior is in better shape than any Chevette has a right to be.

See a better way to drive something that needs to be buried?

  1. Simple, light RWD fun for $1000? Heck yeah!

  2. Slow “car” to drive “fast”

The performance of an MG TD , but without the embarrassment of “look at me” styling.

  3. Kill it.. kill it with fire.

  4. or use the parts to build a lococst

Buddy of mine in college had one of these. When we were out at bars, he would tell girls he drove "A Vette". Marketing at it's finest.

  6. Key words, "missing title"
