Cheap Type 1: 1969 Volkswagen Beetle

This next car comes courtesy of tipper SecondMouse who writes: Here is a good looking 1969 VW Beetle being advertised for what seems like the reasonable sum of $4900, given its apparent condition. Who hasn't wanted to drive a little Beetle around? A good one is a great deal of fun, as long as the highway on-ramps are long enough. They are conversation magnets wherever you go. But apparently, the seller could only spare ten words to describe it. Huh?  Find this 1969 Volkswagen Beetle offered for $4900 in Houston, TX via craigslist.

From the seller:

1969 VW
fuel: gas
title status: clean
transmission: manual
1969 Volkswagen Beetle
run and drive. serious buyers only. lots of spare parts

  1. My first car was a Cal Look bug. I'm sure my dad decided it was a way of keeping my from going over 75mph.
Great car for a young person. I would save money to buy inexpensive parts from Hot VW, VW trends, or even......JC Whitney. Fun experience and kept me safe but it didn't take long for me to want more power. Then came a long line of dangerous vehicles.

  2. My first car was 1964 VW bug 1200 cc, I paid $ 1650 for it new and it lasted 6 months before a garbage truck ran into the back and totaled it. VW dealer wanted $ 1300 to fix it and I fixed it myself and learned about cars. Probably a good lifetime investment in learning about the car business.

  3. This one is pretty nice looking compared to the usual rusted out bugs on CL. I'd love to do a German look bug one day.

  4. I did my driver's ed in a VW Beetle (it was the school's only manual transmission option). I also had a high school friend who had a '58 beetle that we used to wrench on. Learned a lot, good memories, but never opted to own one. The car on offer here looks really nice for the money.
