2JZ Swapped Wagon: 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD

Maybe I'm jaded...or maybe I've seen it all, but when I see a 2JZ swapped Mercedes-Benz wagon, I think to myself -- I've seen this car before...and while we here at DT have published our share (and everybody elses share too) of 2JZ (yo!) equipped Benzes, this particular car appears new to DT..but there must be something in the design of the W124 that lends it to 2JZ swaps, to the point that you can find engine/trans mount kits on on eBay. Find this 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD with 2JZ swap offered for $4,500 in East Bay SF, CA via craigslist. Tip from Hugh.

From the seller:
1987 mercedes 300td
fuel: diesel
title status: clean
transmission: automatic
1987 300td wagon, smog exempt, used to be a diesel. It's got a non-vvti 2jz swap from a 94 lexus gs300 with about 120k on it.

Runs and drives very well. I drive it 200 miles round trip to sac a couple times a week and it gets about 27mpg. Just about everything on the car is rebuilt, everything works except the ac. Car is awesome.

All the suspension and steering stuff has been gone through with factory Mercedes parts and the dealer did the alignment.

$4,500 obo but I'm mostly interested in a trade for a small pickup truck or commuter with ac. Maybe a motorcycle, dual sport or ninja 250, tools, tig welder, dirt bikes, etc.

  1. Shame because this is one of the best diesels MB ever made. They only imported them for one year. Not without issues but they were great highway cruisers. I had one. AC didn't work either

  5. The Hot Rod Garage show (formerly on youtube) recently swapped a 2JZ into an R129 generation SL. Tony Angelo was pumped because the mounts almost perfectly lined up between Toyota engine and Benz body. Maybe the W124 works out just as nicely.

  6. The M104 DOHC Merc engine that came in a R129 can be turbo'd to 1000hp. I've reach in more than a few places that the 2JZ was a copy of the Merc M104/M103.
