Summer Isn't Here Yet: 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder

You might be know (based on the weather around these parts these days..sheesh) but summer is coming.  And tipper SecondMouse send us the following comment with this next car: Cheap, reliable, shift it yourself fun in the sun on the cheap:  Find this 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder offered for $3,900 in Houston, TX via craigslist.

    1. So much fun and the upgrade to the Celica engine is pretty easy and makes the cars even more fun. For this price I am not surprised that it sold fast.

  4. I often wondered about whether or not to get this over an equivalent Miata. In all of the instrumented tests that I've seen the performance between the two cars is nearly identical. Even the driving experience is very similar, according to the testers. (Car and Driver, Motortrend, Automobile, etc.) Having owned both an AW11 MR2 and NA and NB Miatas, I was of course intrigued by these 3rd gen Mistah Two's. But, considering the storage-space advantage, aftermarket support, and easy-peasy livability of the Miata, it's hard to justify purchasing the MR2. Plus, as cool as the mid-engine configuration is, it can't be as brain-dead easy to work on as the Mazda. Plus, the looks of the Toyo are a little polarizing....
