Happy New Years Eve: 2004 Volvo S60R

The 2004-2007 Volvo S60R is a modern hot sedan designed to compete with M3, AMG, S4 and other fast sedans, but it was more muted and slower than the competition.  Probably safer too. Regardless, the S60R is a fun family sedan that errs on the side of luxury and usability instead of raw performance...but a cat back exhaust and chip helps turn up the zoom zoom. Find this 2004 Volvo S60R offered for $5500 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

White Valium: 1998 Buick Century

If you've spent any time behind the wheel of a modern Toyota Camry you won't be impressed by much of anything.  Reliable...sure...but fun?  Nope.  Not even in the slightest.  There is a blandness and safety against anything sport that hat pervades the entire driving experience and reminds me of a 90s front drive Buick.  This is probably not a coincidence because most of the folks who purchased those under sprung Buicks in the 90s are either dead or now drive Camrys/Avalons....which is a shame because the Buick has much more style. So if you want to drive a new Camry, consider this low mile Buick instead. Find this 1998 Buick Century offered for $2800 in Cape Coral, FL via craigslist. Tip from Dascpcu.

Aged Whine: 2003 Mercedes-Benz C240 Wagon with M113K SuperCharged V8

This next car comes as a tip from Jeff who writes; Slick wagon, assuming you trust the shop that did the work.  I'm not as concerned about the quality of the swapper as I am about the signs of the tin worm from life in the rust belt...is D.C. in the rust belt?  Maybe the proximity to the chief offices of our gubmint causes accelerated oxidation of metal...I dunno....but I do know that I'd love to have a supercharged V8 wagon.  Find this 2003 Mercedes-Benz C240 Wagon with M113K SuperCharged V8 offered for $13000 in Washington, D.C. via craigslist.

Lotus 7 Clone: 1992 Westfield SEI

A legit '60s Lotus 7 will set you back something starting around 50 large...and the same goes for building your own brand new Caterham 7...but you can get the same open air light weight feeling of acceleration and danger at a fraction of that bucks with a used kit like this next thing. Find this 1992 Westfield SEI offered for $16,500 in Parkland, FL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Guilty Pleasure: 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo

The Dodge Daytona is a moped in the automotive landscape...one of those vehicles that is fun to ride until your friends find out.  It is also a "dirty secret longing" car...where you might like one, but you don't admit to anyone...but I'm here to yell it loud and proud -- The Daytona Turbo is awesome and you should own one or two or three. Trust me, you'll need the extra cars for parts to keep the "good" one on the road. Find this 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo offered for $2500 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Merry Christmas 2019 from Daily Turismo

It is eerie and quiet over at DT headquarters.  The kids are almost in bed and the 65 Buick Roadmaster is tucked away under a tarp (its got some leaks that need attention) and your Editor-in-Chief has consumed enough eggnog to feel sleepy.  I've only got a few minutes to wish you all a Merry Christmas before I have to be Santa..but I will leave you with this Christmas car photo collage that Kaibeezy put together a few years ago.

Racing Up In Class: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

I have the good fortune of working and living near a few good vintage Volvo mechanics, so I get to see the occasional 1800/P1800 cruising around on the road, but the average driver sees one or two in his lifetime and probably thinks they are an Austin Healey, Aston Martin, or maybe even a Ferrari.  So if you are looking for an inexpensive and interesting car that'll have people scratching your head and you don't like the Triumph GT6, this is the next best bet. Find this 1972 Volvo 1800ES offered for $9,700 CAD ($7373 USD) in Royston, BC via kijiji.net. Tip from Erik202.

Twin Sticked: 1980 Dodge Colt

The Dodge Colt (technically an imported Mitsubishi Mirage with a Dodge emblem) is either a cool/interesting cheap classic if you never had to rely on one for daily driving use or a total pile of garbage if you needed drive one for many miles back in the day.  Personally I have no idea if the Colt is cool or crap, but I'd love to take the little "twin-stick" (it is a 4-speed gearbox with a 2-speed transfer case controlled by that dainty lever to the left of the stick) for a spin.  Find this 1980 Dodge Colt offered for $5100 in Prescott, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Almost Christmas: 1986 SAAB 900S

This next car comes as a tip from Erik202 who writes: I have a lot of cars on my kijiji and craigslist watch lists....I’m probably not getting any of them but maybe someone will rescue this one.  Find this 1986 SAAB 900S offered for $2900 CAD ($2205 USD) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada via Kijiji.ca.

High Watermark or Just High? 1985 Mazda RX-7

A few years ago I would have said that ten large is a stupid sum of money to pay for a first generation RX-7...but I don't know these days.  Classic cars are getting gobbled up my well heeled millennials, grubby fingered gen-Xers, and greedy boomers...but the RX-7 has been cheap for years.  Maybe it's time the spinning apex seal clubber gets its time in the sun?  Or you could at least own this low (53k) mile example and drive it till the miles put it in line with the rest of the market. Find this 1985 Mazda RX-7 offered for $9800 in Arcadia, CA via hemmings. Tip from BP.

M3/4/5: 1997 BMW M3 4-Door

In the classic car market coupes are almost always worth more than sedans...but there are a few notable exceptions, such as the mid 60s Lincoln Continental (the suicide door equipped sedan is way cooler and more expensive than the coupe) and possibly the E36 generation M3.  The 2-door M3 coupe was certainly more common, but a 4-door E36 M3 5-Speed (aka the E36 M3/4/5) does seem to command a premium due to its additional usability and rarity. Find this 1997 BMW M3 4-Door offered for $7995 in Brattleboro, VT via craigslist. Tip from TeleArrow.

A Penny for your Ponton? 1959 Mercedes-Benz 180D

The W121 chassis was sold in large quantities by Mercedes after the war and used as taxicabs all around the world.  The name Ponton was given because of the styling of the fenders and is the German spelling of the word pontoon.  Mercedes were built from 1953 to 1961 and were badged with the 180/190 series names.  The Ponton sedans have never really appreciated in price, perhaps giving additional prudence to the theory that sedans will never be collectible...or they are so miserably slow that even the appreciation curve is slow? Find this 1959 Mercedes-Benz 180D offered for $4800 in Riverside, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

6 Speed Manual: 2003 Volkswagen Passat W8

The B5 generation Passat was launched in the 1997 model year with a product that looked/drove/smelled a lot more like an Audi than the previous generation Passat.  In 2001 Volkswagen introduced the B5.5, a cosmetically refreshed version of the platform that added more chrome trim (inside and out) some fancy taillights and a unique W8 engine option that could have been...if you were lucky...mated to a 6-speed manual. Find this 2003 Volkswagen Passat W8 offered for $8000 in Philadelphia, PA via Brabus Auto. Tip from Pat.

Second Gen F-Body: 1974 Chevrolet Camaro

The second generation Chevrolet Camaro was released in 1970 as a car that was wider, longer, and lower that its predecessor.  Unfortunately the realities of the fuel crisis and increasing safety standards means it isn't as pretty or collectible as its older brother, but I find the later models cool to the bone. Find this 1974 Chevrolet Camaro offered for $6,400 in Norwalk, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Ferrari Power, Fiat Price: 2002 Maserati GT Coupé

I'm not usually someone who recommends buying a car that looks like it was pimped out using parts from the Pep Boys "krome" aisle...but what if that car had a Ferrari V8 and a 6-speed manual gearbox?  And at $10k this car should be worth it for the engine alone...but I dunno. Find this 2002 Maserati GT Coupé offered for $10,000 in Campbell, CA via craigslist. Tip from Matthew.

Strangely Appealing or Strangely Appalling? 1979 Triumph TR7

The wedge shaped Triumph TR7 launched in 1974 by the infamous British Leyland Motor Corp.  The TR7 was billed as "The Shape of Things to Come" - which was apt as British Leyland's sales followed an sharp angle...directly into the ground.  The TR7 styling was penned by Harris Mann (known for his Austin Allegro and Princess work) and while it won't win any beauty contests, it certainly checks all the boxes if you want something that is strangely appealing if you ask me. Find this 1979 Triumph TR7 offered for $6,500 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

White & Tan: 1999 Lexus LS400

This next car comes as a tip from Jeff who writes: If it drives as good as it looks, this will dish out many more miles. Only driven about 9,000 a year to date... Yes indeed, this is the case of a seller who has taken some nice photos of a car that is clean. You could probably find better dollars/mile LS sedans all over craigslist...but those ones aren't as sparkly clean. Find this 1999 Lexus LS400 offered for $5999 in Southwest Houston, TX via craigslist.
