Thunderchicken Apocalypse: 1978 Pontiac Firebird

It has been a few years (2010 to be precise) since the Firebird marque (along with the entire Pontiac lineup) was tossed away like a used Volkswagen coil pack.  Pontiac enthusiasts and 80s detective show enthusiasts alike will gravitate toward the Rockford era Firebird Forumla...and that isn't a bad thing at all because the Thunderchicken is the greatest thing to ever be on the hood of an automobile. Find this 1978 Pontiac Firebird here on eBay offered for $9,999 in Athens, TN.

Another Batmobile: 1967 Cadillac Eldorado

The Cadillac Eldorado was a gigantic front wheel drive personal luxury coupe that started life in 1967, although the name Eldorado was used on a convertible halo car as part of the series 62 platform starting way back in 1953.  The big front drive under-steering boat won't impress anyone with its RV handling characteristics, but trying to nail apexes with any full sized 'Merican car from the late 60s is like trying to rope and hog-tie a woolly mammoth while riding naked on a giraffe.  It sounds like a great idea on paper, but once you get all slathered up in like a petroleum slip-n-slide, you realize it was a horrible mistake.  The same goes for building a custom bizarro car -- once you've created a custom Batmobile, you'll regret it after you sober up. Find this 1967 Cadillac Eldorado here on eBay offered for $9,999 in San Diego, CA.

Oh Yeah: 1993 BMW 550i V12 Wagon E34

The BMW E34 5-series was a large luxury family car from BMW, available as a sedan or wagon (estate).  We don't see the wagon versions very often on the road anymore, but they offer a surprising amount of room for the kids/gear/junk while maintaining the classic BMW luxury, handling and performance.  Regrettably, for the US market BMW felt it only needed an inline-6 in the wagon when equipped with a manual gearbox, or a small V8 when equipped with a slushbox, but some visionary lunatic decided the E34 needed a V12 6-speed. Find this 1993 BMW 550i V12 Wagon E34 offered for $18,000 in East Hampton, CT via craigslist. Tip from Bill.

Low Miles One Owner: 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Is your thumb too gross to put in front of the license plate when you take the photo?  Can't find a dirty yellow/red shop rag?  No problem, use a classic small straw dust broom.  Because everybody has one of them sitting around.  Those little dust brooms are about as common as a Caprice with 28k miles on the odometer.  Find this 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic offered for $5000 in League City, TX via craigslist.  Tip from Jeff.

Never Seen One Before: 1995 Mazda Lantis 323F

I was going to file this next car under the heading of "I don't know what this, but I like it" but instead I'm going to put it in the "I have never heard of this car, but I like it" bucket...and as regular readers of this site can attest, we publish some odddd stuff around here.  It was known as the Mazda 323F, Mazda Astina, Mazda Allegro, or Mazda Artis, but you've probably never heard of ANY of those cars because it was only sold in Japan, Europe, Chili, Columbia, New Zealand and a few other obscure that I look it appears to have been sold EVERYWHERE but North America. Find this 1995 Mazda Lantis 323F offered for $9950 in Santa Clara, CA via craigslist. Tip from Matt.

Not Another Beetle: 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 14

In 1955 Volkswagen introduced the Type 14 that was built as a 2+2 coupe and convertible using mechanical components were borrowed from the Type 1 Beetle with styling by Luigi Segre of carrozzeria Ghia and coach-built bodywork from Karmann...hence the name Karmann Ghia.  Today the Ghia offers an interesting alternative to a common Type 1 Beetle and prices aren't that bad. Find this 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 14 offered for $8000 in Zionville, NC. Tip from Rock On!

VTEC for the iGeneration: 2002 Acura RSX Type-S

This next car comes from SecondMouse who writes: Had to pass this on also, as finding these things in original, unmolested condition with the type-S package and the 6 speed manual (and fairly priced) is about as likely as finding the Hope diamond in your coffee grounds one morning.  If even half of what is in this ad is true, and assuming it isn't some variation of the latest Craigslist scam, it is a steal for someone in the pocket-rocket hobbyist community.  Find this 2002 Acura RSX Type-S offered for $3999 in Houston, TX via craigslist.

Lemon Meringue: 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4

It is Pi-day today, time to enjoy a slice of lemon meringue. Tipper SecondMouse sent in the following car with some commments: Back in the day, this car, which Road and Track called "...too far ahead of its time.", was forced to stand in the shade of the Toyota Supra. The Mitsu 3000 was a technological tour de force for it's time, perhaps too much so for buyers in that era. If you have priced a running 90's- era Supra lately, you might be thinking that a car like this VR4 is a buy at this price point. You might be right, banana yellow and all. Find this 1994 Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 offered for $7900 in Houston, TX via craigslist.

Apple Pie: 1988 Mazda RX-7

It is Pi-day today, time to enjoy a slice of apple pie, because what is more 'murican than a small block chevy shoved into a Japanese chassis?  The Mazda RX-7 is a regular recipient of domestic V8 power infusion -- certainly not because the Wankel is an inherently unreliable spinning piece of machinery, but potentially because the second generation RX-7 has a decent engine bay size and a chassis that can handle the torques and acceleration that comes with moooooooore displacement.  Find this 1988 Mazda RX7 offered for $6,500 in Mt Vernon, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Italian Style: 1981 Lancia Beta Coupe

This next car comes as a tip from Matt C who puts it eloquently when he writes: I realize saying it's an '80s Italian car with sketchy electronics may be redundant, but this is sketchier than most. Still, could be a good deal for someone who's not afraid of rewiring and has a lot of time on his hands. Find this 1981 Lancia Beta Coupe offered for $1800 somewhere near Atlanta, GA via craigslist.

Vicious Attack Bunny: 1978 Volkswagen Rabbit Mk1

Got some unknown image hosting issue with DT's site right now -- please accept our apologies if images are wonky.  The original Volkswagen Rabbit is a fun little front drive econobox that checks all the right boxes if you don't mind driving something that isn't fast in a straight line.  They are fun little machines in stock setup, but stiffen the suspension and revv the motor out a bit for a properly good time.  Find this 1978 Volkswagen Rabbit Mk1 offered for $3750 in Hercules, CA via craigslist.

Turbocharged 6-Speed: 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3

Mazda is like the Dodge of Japan. Honda and Toyota fight like Ford and GM over bragging rights to the "best" volume sales cars and the "fastest" supercars, but Mazda just drops some crazy fun cars like the inexplicably named Mazdaspeed 3, which combined the best attributes of a small front drive family economy car with a turbocharged engine, limited slip diff, and a 6-speed manual box from 2007 through 2009 (second generation version with big smiley face was sold from 2010-2013).  Think of the Mazdaspeed 3 like a Mini Cooper S with an injection of muscle car grunt and size.  Find this 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 offered for $5950 in Hayward, CA via craigslist.

Low Miles, But Not Stupid Low: 1994 Mazda Miata

Whoever said he'd rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow has probably never owned a Lamborghini, but I'd like to ad my own permutation to the rather than club; I'd rather have an expensive version of the cheap car than a cheap version of an expensive car.  Or would I? My current fleet would indicate otherwise...but I digress!! Anyway, this existential crisis is still developing -- find this 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata offered for $5800 in Lutz, FL (not to be confused with the nearby town of LULZ, that place is hilarious) via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Cheapest You'll Find: 1968 Jaguar E-Type Coupe

What's an E-Type worth these days if the front end looks charred and you can't even tell if it is the gorgeous coupe or the ungainly 2+2...which can't be that ungainly if you have a hard time telling it apart from the coupe...but I think this is a 2 seat coupe version offered for a fraction of the typical going price. Find this 1968 Jaguar E-Type Coupe offered for $11,500 in Walnut Creek, CA via craigslist.

Aged Nicely: 1991 Toyota Crown Royal Saloon Wagon

This next car comes with a bit of a surprise for even the biggest car enthusiasts.  At first glance it looks like something from the 1970s -- chrome bumpers that look to be JDM or derubberfied, and the interior looks like beige muppet skin straight out of the 1980s and underhood the low vacuum hosed 1JZ looks like 1990s...but the title says 1991? Say what? Find this 1991 Toyota Crown Royal Saloon Wagon offered for $9950 in Chaplin, SC via craigslist. Tip from JB1025.

Pininfarina Penned: 1968 Peugeot 204 Convertible

I bet you couldn't tell me what the best selling car in France was between 1969 and 1971?  I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the Volkswagen Beetle or the Ford F-Series, but it was a small Pininfarina designed French sedan from Peugeot called the 204.  You won't see many of these around the streets of the USA, and they aren't monstrously expensive. Find this 1968 Peugeot 204 Convertible offered for $12,900 in Chicago, IL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

1989 Nissan Pao vs 1991 Nissan Figaro

What are the chances? Two of Nissan's sweet retrotastic "Pike" cars for sale at the same time.  Most people have never heard of oddball classics, much less seen one in the wild and here is your chance to buy two of them for less than a new Accord.  Now you get to pick the one you like better.  First up is this 1989 Nissan Pao offered for $14,800 in Gardena, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
