Livin' Green: 1980 Ford Fiesta

Have you ever worn an outfit where you've simultaneously attempted to blend into the background, but be the best dressed person at the party? What you are trying to do is to be ignored by the masses, but get major respect from the few people "in-the-know" and this next car is the automotive equivalent because it will get blank stares from most of the appliance drivers on the road, but mad respect from people who read this site. Find this 1980 Ford Fiesta offered for $1750 in Warsaw, KY via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

  1. Yep, like DT predicted, mad props from me. Great cars, simple, but really fun to drive. The Kent Ford 1600 is one of history's great engines. Rust is the usual enemy, but if this one has escaped that fate, then you could keep this going for a long time with a basic set of hand tools. Interesting bumper replacement, and the seats require immediate attention: either find another grey one, or reupholster the originals. Anyway, I would drive this in a heartbeat.

    1. I like this too. It would be fun to take to a VW Golf meet up and see if they notice it's a Ford.

  2. "Have you ever worn an outfit where you've simultaneously attempted to blend into the background, but be the best dressed person at the party?"

actually I just bought a new shirt to do both things at the Russian party on Friday. I was coming back from the shop when I saw the DT mail, haha.

but IMO the right car to blend into the background and be the best dressed person at the party is the first Audi A8 or a Saab 900.

  3. Dad still misses his hopped-up Fiesta from his HS daze. His description of that car into these young ears was the seed that sprouted into the messy, viny, flowering adulation of DT-esque automobile-dom we all recognize in ourselves. Back in the day, he said that these were superior hot hatches to the plasticky GTI as they were not only better built but also better handlers. I remember he said that he kept his as sleepy as possible, even to the point of sending back the chrome header that he was erroneously sent instead of the black one he ordered. Love my dad.
