Cheap 6-Speed: 1990 Chevrolet Corvette C4

People always ask me: "What is the fastest car I can buy for around $5k if I've got no concern for my safety and I don't mind iffy build quality."  The answer is easy...and it isn't a Miata...nope...it is a C4 Corvette. Find this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette offered for $5500 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist.

  1. Cool car, cool price (considering Bay area inflation).

I was all excited to read about a Lotus Europa with a Toronado engine swap.

My impression is that most of the danger inherent to older cheap Corvettes manifests itself in bar parking lots in the later evening but can be cleared up with a course of antibiotics.

  3. It's worth the price for all the zip ties alone!

  4. I bought a 1990 Corvette convertible in July. I'm loving it. As with any 28 year old car, there are a few things to fix (power seat goes back and forth but not up and down, plastic window is cracked, etc.) but it sure is fun. Note cars have gotten far faster in the past ten years so don't expect to outrun everything, I just lost a race with a Forester XT. Still, torque is always a blast. A great purchase.

    1. Small world, we also bought a '90 'Vette convertible - with the very desirable 6 speed. It looks great, nice leather seats, good top, cold ac, functioning cruise and new tires, all for a mere $5000. It's so much more fun to look at than a Miata and generates appreciative comments from C4 fans and is a blast to drive. They're really a well kept secret in the value department!

    2. The C4 is now more appealing looking to me than the 5. Just saw one today that was perfect and had the zr1 tail lights and wheels. Nice

    3. Very cool, mine has the 6 speed as well. I wasn't necessarily in the market for a Vette but since I bought it, I've been watching the market and notice they don't sell very quickly. There are deals to be had for sure

  5. Not one lustful phrase targeted at the Starion Tsi in the headline pic? No one??
