Needs Engine Installed: 1966 Renault Caravelle

The Renault Caravelle is another rarely seen-on-the-road French pile of parts that competed with Volkswagen's Beetle and Karmann Ghia with a rear-mounted engine and basic accouterments. However, the Caravelle didn't use an aircooled pancake engine and instead zipped & zoomed around with a watercooled inline-4.  Find this 1966 Renault Caravelle offered for $8000 in Paradise, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean S.

1966 Renault Caravelle

The Renault Caravelle is a sports car which was produced by the French manufacturer Renault between 1958 and 1968. Outside of North America and Britain it was, until 1962, marketed under the nameplate Renault Floride.

The Caravelle being offered is a rust free specimen in what Hagerty Valuation Guide describes as good to excellent condition ($10k to $15k). This car has it's matching detachable hard-top in perfect condition as well as a folding convertible top that needs restoration. This car has it's original radio, freshly powder coated rims, new tires and newly recovered front seats. The engine has just been completely rebuilt and needs to be installed.

It needs a new carpet, back bench cover and convertible tonneau to finish the car.

The car comes with lots of new parts.

This car is located in Paradise, CA near Chico.

  1. I had one of these. Bought it new in 1967. It had 4 wheel disc brakes when most cars did not have even front discs and Michelin radials, before anyone even heard of radial tires. It was a great car and got around 40 MPG. The seats were the most comfortable ones ever. Drove it for 5 years before trading it in on a Falcon station wagon (twins, you know).
