Eclipse of the Heart: 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Outlaw Kit

The Porsche 356 was first built in Austria by a company called  Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH in the smoldering ruins of WWII...but the little 356 isn't simply another inexpensive classic like its Beetle brother, but it is an expensive collectible that requires a leather tool case and a waxed mustache to properly drive...particularly in the Speedster version -- so it is no surprise that there are a number of kit-car versions that use Beetle components for the moving parts.  This next one..however..it is a real Bearded Spock universe weirdo that uses parts from a Mitsubishi to go forward.  Find this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Outlaw Kit offered for $12,500 in Port Hueneme, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean.

See a stranger way to drive a Mitsubishi? tips@dailyturismo.com

  1. Even though a Porsche bodied Eclipse GS-T is probably going to be a hoot to drive, I'm a bit disappointed the motor wasn't behind the driver.

  2. I was ready to offer a left testicle in trade until...Mitsubishi/front engine.

  3. That has to be the least effective roll-bar ever.

  4. This . . . cannot be a correct Porsche 356 body can it? Is it possible to make such a beautiful and elegant work of sheet metal look like . . . . this?

    1. It is. I shortened the chassis 14.5" to fit the 356 wheel base.

  5. What exactly am I getting for 12k? Mitsubishi style reliability or a constant rattle of sheet metal and plywood at 50mph

    1. You would have gotten an extremely fast 356 replica. Of course there's alot of jaded people out there apparently.

  6. This is what happens to a 356 when it's squeezed through a wormhole.

Porsche 356? More like a new Wiggles Mobile...

-Stan (who is a dad and yes, has watched the Wiggles. More than once.)

    1. I did it cause I could!! And I'd do it again!!

  7. The problem was something along the lines of "I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse that I have sawzalled everything off of, what can I cover all the jagged metal bits with?"

I am really surprised that a slightly lifted fiberglass speedster body was the answer. How did it fit?

    1. It only fit because I shortened the chassis by 14.5" to match the 356 wheel base. Not an easy task
