Finger Lookin Good: 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX

Tipper SecondMouse sent in the following car with these words of wisdom: You say you're dying to do some smoky burnouts in a RWD 2 door V8 with 4 wheel independent suspension, but you don't have a champagne budget, or even a beer budget (more like a tap water budget)?  SecondMouse has you covered with a decent copy of the last of the everyman's Thunderbird here:
Find this 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX offered for $1300 in Houston, TX via craigslist.

Let's Roll: 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The Chevrolet Corvette has always been America's sports car, but this next example takes it to the ultimate level.  It puts the Jamin' in Benjamin Franklin, the Bert & Ernie in Liberty, and the Steal in Bald Eagle.  This is the most American thing to drive on a road since the Sherman Tank.  Find this 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 offered for $21,900 in Florence, KY via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

4.0 Jeep EFI Power: 1976 AMC Hornet

You don't need a fancy car to start with when you are building your own classic.  You don't need a bunch of fancy aftermarket parts either...or a fancy $8k paint job.  But if you don't have any of those things or a pile of money, you need skill...mad skills.  Find this 1976 AMC Hornet offered for $5000 near Seattle, WA via craigslist. Tip from JB1025.

NY Auto Show 3/28/18: Who Let This Guy In?

Disclaimer: I have bought one new car in my life and drove to NYC in a new to me 2002 Honda Civic Si.  My strategy to save the environment involves buying used cars and keeping older cars on the road (preferably pre-2000 Mercedes).  With all this in mind, I headed to NY Auto show on Wednesday armed with DT press credentials to see what the auto industry had new to offer.  Here are a my unvarnished ramblings and many pictures from the day.

LT1 V8 Swap: 1992 Chevrolet Astro LT

It happens three or four times a month without fail, strangers approach me in hushed tones and ask "what is the best platform for an engine swap?"  At first, I'm taken back by the fact that I'm being asked such a strange question in the middle of Sunday Mass, but then I shrug my shoulders and whisper in a hoarse but brief reply-- "Chevy Astro Van". if there is any other answer to this question.  Find this 1992 Chevrolet Astro LT offered for $9995 in Colorado Springs, CO via craigslist.  Tip from Barbpaddles via engineswapdepot

Red Flag: 2007 Ford Mustang GT

I've seen a few sketchy cars for sale in my time, but I've never encountered the term "non repairable paperwork (no title!)" before...but lemme tell's got me intrigued, mildly terrified, but just curious enough to check out the pictures.  Its like if Stormy Daniels turned out to be Daniel Stormy if you catch my drift, and this next vehicle will really drift because it runs/drives and has little wrong papers.  Find this 2007 Ford Mustang GT offered here on eBay offered for $3995 in Wrightstown, NJ.

Topless Fun: 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder

The 3rd generation (W30) Toyota MR2 Spyder was the last version of Toyota's mid engine runabout to be sold anywhere in the world.  It was a great handling little car and I recall driving one new at a dealer's lot back around the year Y2K. It was light and superbly balanced, the only complain could have been that the 138 horsepower inline-4 was slightly underpowered, but it is more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow.  Find this 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder offered for $5750 in Pearland, TX via craigslist.  Tip from SecondMouse.

What Am I? Latching

Welcome back to another episode of DT's infamous What Am I? -- the quiz where you get to show your esoteric car knowledge and everybody is a winner.  Wait...that's not right, this game is like competitive Olympic curling, there can ONLY be one winner and she is a smokin that's not right either...ANYWAY, solve this puzzle. What Am I?

Bongo Van! 1990 Ford Spectron XLT

God Save The Queen- 2001 Jaguar XJ8

Here is a late weekend answer to this Wednesday's Mid Week Match-up large car search for Dave.  This 2001 XJ8 provides an unmatched level of class, distinction, and car for the dollar.  The Jaguar 4.0 V8 makes 30 more hp than the Roadmonster's stout LT1 engine and weighs less too boot.  I believe reliability of these Ford era Jag's are not too shabby either.  Find this 2001 Jaguar XJ8 for sale in Norwalk, CT for a blue light special price of $999 via craigslist.

Got Back: 1995 Mazda Miata Fastback

Most people fall into either the "convertibles are OK" or "I would never own a convertible" camps.  For campers in the later position, when one brings up the quintessential convertible, the Mazda Miata, it's the old "I'd give Mazda my money if they built it as a coupe" song and dance.  Outside of Japan, those people have been out of luck.  Until now... Find this 1995 M-Edition Mazda Miata Fastback here for sale in Anaheim, CA for a price only Serious Buyers can find out, via craigslist.

Death Kart: 2000 Dodge Neon-ish

Just because you could drive a vehicle on the street does not necessarily mean it is "street legal"...or does it?  Does driving it around and having your local fuzz laugh at your mean it is legal or just tolerated?  Street tolerated does have a good ring to it. Find this 2000 Dodge Neon-ish thing offered for $1195 in Sparta, GA via craigslist. Tip from Matt C.

Rescue Me: 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60

Production of the FJ60 generation Land Cruiser started in 1980 when it replaced the FJ50 version that had been in production since 1967.  It was a similarly off-road capable vehicle as its predecessor, but added much appreciated creature comforts like air conditioning and upgraded interior quality, and they are insanely rugged monsters if you have a little mechnical know-how.  Find this 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 offered for $4500 in Windsor, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.
