#FAKE NEWS: 1957 Volkswagen Beetle

The term "custom car" is bandied about (like the term "fake news") nowadays to include all manner of cars with a few Pep Boys trinkets superglued to the hood.  Fortunately, there are people who put time and effort into building a colossally insane custom.  The end product it isn't just a few fudged statistics, it's more like the Onion.  Find this 1957 Volkswagen Beetle custom offered for $24,900 in Winlock, WA via craigslist.  Tip from JB1025.

**OH SO RARE**:: 1978 Dodge Aspen

The Dodge Aspen was a compact sedan/coupe built on a chassis shared with the Plymouth Volaré, Dodge Dart, & Chrysler Valiant.  This next example is priced at a fairly high asking price...but how many low mile Aspens in nice shape can possibly exist on the planet?  Find this 1978 Dodge Aspen offered for $7200 in Ft Myer, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Dascpcu.

Foxy Lady: 1983 Ford Mustang 5.0 Convertible

The 3rd generation Fox-body Mustang needs little or no introduction to most American muscle fanatics living human beings, but perhaps a refresher is in order.  Ford replaced the funky shaped Mustang II in 1979 with the Fox-body, and returned Mustang proportions to its previous long-hood/short rear end setup.  The early Foxes had quad headlights, with a grill and front end that I think is slightly cooler than the later '87+ look.  Find this 1983 Ford Mustang 5.0 Convertible offered for $9000 in Austin, TX via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

GT-Four: 1992 Toyota Celica All-Trac

The fifth generation Toyota Celia was released for the 1990 model year with all new "Super Round" organic styling and further refinement on the rock solid build quality that was beginning to be synonymous with the word Toyota.  It wasn't an exciting car by any yardstick, but the GT-Four version (All-Trac in the US) added some needed power, all-wheel-drive traction, and, most importantly, a prominent hood scoop to the basic version. Find this 1992 Toyota Celica All-Trac offered for $3,500 in Austin, TX via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Whale Tail: 1984 Porsche 944

The Porsche 944 was built from 1982 through 1991 on a platform shared with the low level Porsche 924, and it featured an upgraded engine and upgraded styling...but today's example is even MORE upgraded.  Find this 1984 Porsche 944 offered for $9800 in Henderson, NV via craigslist.  Tip from Zach Z.

Nuclear Frog Barf Green: 1971 Plymouth Fury Custom Suburban Wagon

This next car reminds us what a big thing avocado green was in the early 70's.  Kitchen countertops, appliances, deep shag carpet, and Mopar Wagons.  Make all of your friends green with envy after you whip out a major pile of kermit green cash to pay the asking price on this thing.  Find this 1971 Plymouth Fury Custom Suburban Wagon offered for $17500 in Colorado Springs, CO via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Mid Week Match-Up: Pi Day Special

Happy Pi Day to all math nerds out on the web. That's affirmative, today is Pi Day -- 3.14 -- a nicely rounded version of the irrational number that was closely approximated with polygons by the Greek mathematician Archimedes around 250 BC. We are going to celebrate Pi Day with a special edition of the Mid Week Match-Up...where we look for the best car for a nerd.

Twin Delivery: 1980 Citroen Acadiane

The Acadiane was an oddly shaped light commercial vehicle produced  by Citroen based on the Dyane chassis from 1977 through 1987.  It isn't as rare as you might expect with over 250,000 examples produced so getting one for a decent price looks possible.  Find these two 1980 Citroën Acadianes offered for $7500 each in Ft Myers, FL via craigslist. Tip from Dascpcu.

Simple Driver: 1990 Acura Legend

This next car is a hot one -- a clean, good running, rust free, medium mile example of an early 90s classic with a smooth Honda V6 that didn't push the boundaries of technology, but eased next to the boundary with a whimsical smile on its face.  And the price on this one is great...naturally it comes with the slushbox auto (a manual gearbox version would probably have been driven more!)...but this seems like a perfect first car for a kid or cheap daily driver.  Find this 1990 Acura Legend V6 offered for $3750 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

What Am I? From A Frozen Northern Place

This next feature comes from Erik202 who writes:
I came across an ad, it's for a trailer but sitting on the trailer is a car I absolutely can't identify..... some type of Austin 1100/1300 cousin would be my best guess but the more i look at it the more i think that's probably wrong
Anyway I'm sure the Daily Turismo crowd will know

What do you think guys?  Who can tell Erik202 what manner of beast sits atop this 20 Foot Car Trailer offered for $2600 CAD via

Unlikely Manual: 2006 Honda Element

Time Machine: 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX Sportbak

You might not love one, but you cannot hate the Nissan Pulsar.  From those funky psychedelic tail lights to the 3-way sports-car/wagon/convertible roof can you not like this thing!?!?! You want a time machine...forget the Delorean -- get one of these, it'll be 1985 before you know it. Find this 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX offered for $3700 in Douglasville, GA via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Over the Top: 1988 Ford Cabover

Nobody really wants to go back to the smog filled skies of yesteryear...but there is just something about an aged vintage truck that just seems cool.  Back before trucks had automatic transmissions, self braking systems, automated driver logs, and diesel particulate filters...they were a smoke beltching metal beasts with a bionic heart driven by a guy named Kevin or Bud who drank cheap diner coffee as quickly as he could clog up lanes with discarded retreads...and it was glorious.  Relive your 80s trucker fantasies with this next over the top classic.  Find this 1988 Ford Cabover offered for $3000 in Concord, CA via craigslist.

Jet Powered Death Wish: 1991 Holden Commodore

Earlier this year I had the good fortune to visit the land down under for a business trip and I can tell you it was a magical place.  The scenery was otherworldly and the cars were also from another dimension...but this next car is not just another fast saloon car, its a bloody ripper. If you don't want a car that requires a checklist to get going in the morning or could give you third degree burns if you turn left probably should look elsewhere.  Find this 1991ish Holden Commodore Jet Car here on ebay currently bidding for $10,000 AUD ($7,853 USD) located in Enfield, South Australia with 1 day to go. Tip from Lars W.

Three Pedal AMG- 1995 Mercedes C36

The Mercedes C36 was the first car produced by AMG after Mercedes purchased them.  The C36 was the successor to 190E 16V as Mercedes compact performance car.  It was a very expensive car when new and competed directly with the BMW E36 M3.  The engine, square edged styling, brakes, and build quality were without fault.  The real achilles heal of the C36 was the dimwitted automatic which was the only transmission option.  C36 resale prices pale in comparison to the M3 largely due to the the lack of third pedal.  Today's seller took matters in their own hands and swapped in a proper manual transmission.  Find this 1995 Mercedes C36 AMG for sale in Santa Barbara, CA for $8,500 via craigslist.  Tip from Sean.

The Hero We Need: 1997 Kia Sportage

We all love a good surprise because surprise is a fantastic emotion...that's why surprise parties are more popular than anxiety parties.  Imagine my surprise when I'd discovered that somebody made a Kia Sportage into something cool...awesome...and just a bit exciting.  ANXIETY...I mean SURPRISE!!  Find this 1997 Kia Sportage 4X4 offered for $4000 in Petaluma, CA via craigslist.

Last of the Round Styled: 1999 Toyota Celica GT

I've always been a fan of the 6th generation T200 Toyota Celica...particularly in the liftback style -- it combines decent sportiness (for a 90s Japanese economy car) with everyday practicality (hatchback!) and not-to-hideous styling.  In fact, I quite like the aesthetics of the liftback, it sorta looks like a 7/8ths scale 3rd gen Toyota Supra.  Find this 1999 Toyota Celica GT offered for $4800 in San Mateo, CA via craigslist.
