#113 of 264: 1996 Volkswagen Golf Harelquin Edition

The theories as to why Volkswagen produced the Harelquin Golf are as varied as the drugs available on the silk road...but the idea that Volkswagen had spare panels of various colors and wanted to consume them is silly.  Personally I'm a fan of the "colorblind assembly technicians" theory, but there is no disputing the basic awesomeness of the lego-colored classics.  Find this 1996 Volkswagen Golf Harelquin offered for $8000 in Kent, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

From the seller:
This is a very rare Volkswagen, only 264 of them ever produced. I am the third owner of her and am regretfully thinking of selling her

This harlequin I was told by the previous owner that it is a rarer harlequin, which has a GTI transmission and a sticker package that came on the car brand new

She is number 113 of 264 ever produced.

-234,000 miles runs great, smokes while driving a little
-FK German coilovers
-Full sound system with two 10's with iPod hook up, sounds great (since 1997)
-Stock original harlequin seats (two little rips, I've seen other harlequin owners with these same rips and they sew them up with red/yellow/blue/green to match)
-Heatercore bypassed
-DTM exhaust from the 90's
-Original and period correct Volkswagen hubcaps with new Toyo tires

I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY TRADES, only selling as I am building a fully built Subaru

*Zero rust on the whole car

See another junk yard door swap car?

  1. I use to hate these and now think they are pretty tasty. Same with brussel sprouts.

  2. I mean I don't hate'em, but I don't love'em either. 8K for 234,000 and some smoke? I think this is a case where rare does not necessarily mean valuable. Sure it's worth some extra money, but not 4x.

  3. That theme has been used elsewhere, but usually by individual owners:

    1. Or sticker certain happy DTers.....

  4. the idea behind the harlequin was to pay homage to the old Beetles, which had different colors, due to owners replacing various fenders and body parts with spares from the junk yard... usually of different colors, but hey, why would a hippie care?
