The Pontiac Fiero is one of the unsung heroes of the American 80s car scene. It doesn't get top billing at car shows around the country, but it offers a fun combination of composite body and mid engine handling in a stylish package...but it gets even better when you turn up the power. Find this 1988 Pontiac Fiero 3800SC offered for $2,000 in Ashley, IN via Craigslist. Tip from Eric B.

Welcome back to another edition of the What Am I? puzzle -- the best check on your sanity without being hooked to electrodes. This week we've got a puzzle from the darker side of the automotive world -- you just need to identify the car.
The Geo Metro isn't the skinny kid who got beat up in school -- it is the even smaller kid that was left alone because even the bullies felt sorry for him. But not today. Today, the Geo has been given an adamantium skeleton and a bazooka to settle a few old scores. Find this 1996 Geo Metro offered for $6,000 in Sierra Vista, AZ via craigslist.
I'm sitting in my living room watching the high-end classics crossing the block at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale and wondering what the auction scene will look like in 20 years. Will people still be dropping $100k into '60s Suburbans or will things like minty clean 80s Hondas be the bee's knees? Who knows...but enjoy cheap 80s classics while you can. Like this 1981 Honda Prelude with 45k miles on the odo offered for $4,500 in Naples, FL via craigslist. Tip from dascpcu.

It is a miracle that the SRT-10 Ram concept ever made it past the bean counters at Chrysler's corporate HQ, and it was even a bigger surprise that 9,527 of these Mexican built monsters found buyers when new. Find this 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 here on eBay bidding for $16,600 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.
The E30 generation BWM 3-series offers an affordable entry into rear-drive German luxury, but in stock trim they can be a bit lackadaisical in straight line performance. But that is easily solved with an M50 engine swap and a giant cantaloupe sized turbocharger. Find this 1990 BMW 325i Convertible here on eBay bidding for $6,200 in Yorktown, VA.

Remember when Mazda purchased the rights to build the Volkswagen Beetle and started shoving 13B rotary engines into version that were setup from the factory as Baja racers, and then Donald Trump was sworn in as president. Wait...that stuff didn't happen? It was just a dream. But you were there...and you...and you... Find this 1969 Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle offered for $6,000 in Inland Empire Los Angeles Area, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

The Volvo Amazon (called the 120 series outside of Sweden due a complicated lawsuit involving a German company with the rights to the name Amason) was the more practical, more upright but still cool older sibling of the P1800 sports car, to which it donated its engine, transmission, and suspension options. For decades the Amazon was an under appreciated classic that could be owned for next to nothing, but classic car collectors have started to recognize the value and prices are up...mostly. Find this 1965 Volvo Amazon 122 offered for $3,000 near Louisville, KY via craigslist. Tip from Zach Z.
The Volkswagen Beetle was used for a number of kit-style cars over the years -- but don't think for a minute that you need to settle for some homebuilt project, because a few crazy people in Brazil built a legitimate production car using bits of old Beetles...and it doesn't look bad at all. Find this 1981 Volkswagen Puma offered for $6,000 in Mokena, IL via craigslist.
DT first featured this car in June of 2015 when it sold for $10k via ebay, but it is back and just as awesome as the last time. Find this 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Convertible here on eBay bidding for $11,100 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go, located in Seattle, WA.

The C4 generation Corvette was a big styling change from the previous C3 Vette. Gone were the stingray inspired fender humps and instead the car featured Lotus Esprit meets a door style styling. It might be the bourbon speaking, but the C4 is starting to grow on me. Find this 1986 Chevrolet Corvette here on eBay offered for $9,990 buy-it-now or make-offer located in San Marcos, CA.
People say I ask too many unanswerable questions. Like, why does the sun set in the East if you are on the moon? What really happens to a sea gull when it eats an Alka-Seltzer? Will Michael Moore have a spontaneous pulmonary embolism when Trump is sworn in as President? Is the wall Trump wants to build meant to protect the USA from Mexico, or shield Mexico from the USA? If I wanted to be a pirate surfer, what kind of custom 60s rod would I build? Wait. Somebody answered that last one. Find this 1972 Cadillac Pirate Surf Mobile offered for $12,000 near Phoenix, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.
The classic formula for the "hot rod" was to start with a plebeian car offering and dump some big engine and maybe a suspension modification or two. However, today's cars are so fast and compitent from the factory that there isn't much to make hotter, so you gotta start with something that was terrible to drive in the first place, like a third generation Chevy C10 pickup. Like this 1981 Chevrolet C10 here on eBay bidding for $11,411 reserve-not-met with 4 days to go, located in Bettendorf, IA.

The 996 generation Porsche 911 is near two decades since its release and has got to be near an inflection point for used car prices. So far, all the pressure has been downward as the cars have gotten out of style and the owners have ditched them for latest model...but the downward ride on a slide greased in pork fat can't last forever. In the meantime, enjoy the cheap CHEAP speed. Find this 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera here on eBay offered for $11,350 buy-it-now located in Costa Mesa, CA.
Today's Mid Week Match-Up request is from a friend of DT Michael who needs a replacement for his Acura TL. In his words: The transmission on my 2005 Acura TL grenaded on my way home from work on Friday. With 187,000 miles on the clock and a body riddled with hail damage (the car, not mine) it looks like it is time to move on. The cars that interest me vary rather wildly -- yes, the Porsche 911 is my dream car (like many a 46 year old dude). But I also like the utility of a Jeep Wrangler or Commander. And I also dream of owning an electric car. Or a gigantic Autobahn cruising sedan.
The third generation (1992-1995) Mazda RX-7 was one of the best looking cars produced in the 1990's at any price level. They were known to have temperamental twin turbo rotary engines that came fitted with an absurd amount of rubber vacuum hoses. It is not uncommon to find LS swapped FD RX-7's for this reason. Today's example keeps things in the rotary family so to speak. Find this 1975 Mazda RX-3 for sale in New Haven, CT for $8,500 via craigslist.
