From the seller:
1985 "first built" Oldsmobile Calais : supreme 2 door, gray velour interior. Equipped with an automatic transmission 92 hp, 151 CID OHV 4 cylinder engine (also known as GM's "IRON DUKE" tech-IV). This model was outfitted with nearly every available option, including wire wheel covers, features A151CID OHV-4 inline cast iron block that produces 92 hp with throttle body injection, single exhaust. Transmission is turbo hydromatic. AOD/ transaxle with 4wd, tires are white wall with a stamped seal with wheel cover.
Just admire the carbureted Tech4 Iron Duke under the hood...the 92 horsepower won't amaze anyone, but I'm amazed that one has survived the jaws of the crusher...

92 Horsepower! 10,000 miles! Never titled!
ReplyDeleteWhat?
I seriously doubt this is 4wd as the seller states.
ReplyDeleteIf I just HAD to have a Calais with a five figure price tag, I'd rather go for a '91 W41, which has the distinction of STILL being banned from Stock class autocross in the SCCA (although seriously, that probably ought to be revisited now...).
ReplyDeleteWhile searching for the proper name for that package, I found that Wikipedia's article on the Calais states that the first production Calais was kept at GM's museum. This car matches the description in that article.
throttle body injection means not carbureted, right?
ReplyDeleteHow the heck does this HAPPEN???
ReplyDeletePalm Beach Gardens, FL is how.
DeleteAs for the "why"...
