Oddball F23A Swapped: 1997 Honda Accord EX Wagon

If you visit the island of Japan you will find many people driving small wagons, but for whatever reason the Japanese product planners decided that American buyers didn't want (or deserve?) to get the 5-door version of most of their machines.  An exception is the 5th generation of the Honda Accord, like this 1997 Honda Accord EX Wagon offered here on eBay for $2,800 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in Irvine, CA.

Fried Eggs Benedict: 1997 Porsche Boxster with 911 Flat-6

I've been a big fan of the Porsche Boxster since it hit the market about 20 years ago, and my enthusiasm has only grown as they've aged into cheap abused late models.  You really can't beat the performance-per-dollar ratio of a $7,500 mid-engined Porsche, particularly one with the big 3.4 liter engine from a 911. Find this 1997 Porsche Boxster with 911 Flat-6 offered for $7,800 in Millbrae, CA via craigslist.

Wurst, Cars: My blitz through the BMW Museum

Wurst, Cars: My blitz through the BMW Museum - by Kaibeezy.

Last week I spent, um... yeesh, about 20 hours in transit for a 3 hour meeting in Munich. By the time you add up the 3-hours it should have taken to get to Edinburgh, then the extra couple of hours it *did* take due to all the construction, plus waiting around in the airport twice, 5 hours in the air, taxi and S-Bahn rides, bit of walking, and then the convenient but mediocre hotels, it's not glamorous jet-setting by any stretch. That said, there were a couple of highlights, things Munich is famous for and didn't disappoint: cars and food.

Stock Shock: 1989 Nissan Silvia S13

Yesterday I mentioned that fact that you don't see many Honda CRXs for sale that aren't totally trashed, thrashed, or flashed -- but there is another car that is even harder to find in stock non-lord_humongous trim...yup, the Nissan S13 Silva.  Customizers, flatbrimmers, stancers, racers, drifters, and the like have just about run the stock S13 into extinction, so finding a stock one is like finding 4-leafed horsefeather.  Find this 1989 Nissan Silvia S13 offered for $9,500 in Corpus Christi, TX via craigslist. Rare Survivor: 1987 Honda CRX

On the top of my list of cars that we almost never find in un-modified and original trim is Honda's fabulous CRX sports coupe.  The Honda CRX was an interesting two-seat front-drive economy sports car that really shook up the market when it was introduced in 1983.  There were few other cars on the road that could be optioned to get 40mpg city/50mpg highway (in the CRX HF) or provide an exhilarating driving experience (CRX Si). Find this 1987 Honda CRX here on eBay bidding for $4,050 with a few hours to go, located in La Mirada, CA.

Thursday Twister: Less Than The Cost of Resto

This week's Thursday Twister came from a tip from Terry B who writes: You could not restore this car for the asking price........if this is what you want???  And I like it.  I like any car where the cost of restoration is far less than the asking price, like on this 1965 Volvo PV544 offered for $9,600 near Sacramento, CA.

El Ehs Juan: 1987 BMW 528e

The E28 generation BMW 528e with the 2.7 liter ETA engine is a great car if you don't mind being passed by most modern cars...but you've got that smug look on your face because you know there is more to life than driving fast.  Except today, you know something that new BMW driver doesn't know...this car isn't left handed.  Find this 1987 BMW 528e with LS1 V8 offered for $20,500 in Reseda, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean.

Mod Max: 1977 Ford Mustang Cobra II

The Ford Mustang II doesn't get much respect in the car world, even the Cobra version is a scoffed at by Camero owners and Vespa driver's too...but...and this is a BIG BUT...if you do it right, the end result might be cool enough to embarrass your kids at the school drop off line and attract the right kind of yoga pant wearing mom...if you are into that kinda thing. Don't worry about license plates because this thing will never pass Cali smog with the current engine setup, so just be prepared to run checkpoints like you are the night rider. Find this 1977 Ford Mustang Cobra II offered for $6,500 in Camarillo, CA via craigslist.

Mid Week Match-Up: Mad Max Today

We've all seen the original Road Warrior, a timeless piece of cinema that deserves a place in your collection sandwiched between Citizen Kane and The Godfather, but what if the movie was filmed today in the badlands of New Mexico and Max couldn't get the last of the Interceptor V8s...what would he drive?

Rally Awesome: 1989 Suzuki Swift GT MK2

The Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro/Chevy Metro/Pontiac Firefly (sold from 1988-1999) was a subcompact hatchbox from General Motors with powertrain developed by Suzuki and the build quality of toy from the 99 cent store.  The Swift wasn't swift in the least bit, but it was available with a 5 speed manual transmission, fully independent suspension and a super light 1600 lb curb weight...so it makes a great rally car.  Find this 1989 Suzuki Swift GT MK2 Rally Car offered for $6,000 in Norwalk, CT via hemmings. 9 Grand Challenge: 190D vs MGBGT vs S4 vs S2000 vs Cobalt SS vs '49 Willys

Picture this for a moment.  You've got nine large burning a hole in your pants...and unlimited access to DT's tips inbox.  What do you do?  Do you wait for tipper FuelTruck to send in yet another $9k bargain or do you just jump into the pool with one of these recently submitted:

Always Raced and Rallied: 2005 Subaru WRX STI Rally Car

Performance rallying: "Real cars on real roads going real fast".  That's what proponents of stage rallying use to describe their niche of a niche sport to the average American.  I'd add "not watched by real people in the U.S." to it.  Something about driving for hours to remote areas to watch cars is a hard sell onm this side of The Pond.  But maybe instead of standing by the side of a dirt road in the sticks, you could have the best seat in the house.  Find this 2005 Subaru WRX STI Rally Car for sale in Vancouver, BC, Canada for $23,555 CAD (about $19,000 USD's at time of writing) via craigslist.

STI SUV?: 2004 Subaru Forester Turbo

The turbo version of the Subaru Forester is sort of like the GMC Syclone of pick-up trucks.  In 2004 when the turbo model debuted, car magazines were able to get jaw dropping 5.3 second 0-60 times and high 13 second 1/4 mile times out of this tall wagon.  The 2004-05 turbo Foresters are blessed with super short 4.44:1 gears that along with the all wheel drive system and 2.5 liters of displacement really help the car at the local stop light Grand Prix.  If you were a crafty Subaru second hand parts scavenger, it would not be difficult to make one of these at least on par with a WRX STI performance wise.  Find this 2004 Subaru Forester Turbo for sale in Billerica, MA for $7,500 via craigslist.

2 Camels: 1970 Citroën Méhari

This next car is the kind of ride that gets you a sort of attention that could be good or bad...depending on how you feel about strange men chasing you around town to get a closer look at your ride.  And not the kind of dudes you'd want trying to poke under your hood, but that is a discussion for another day.  Find this 1970 Citroen Mehari offered for $4,800 near Cincinatti, OH via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

What Am I? Come Sail Away

It is Monday morning, and time to solve the weekly What Am I? puzzle, and today we've got an interesting one.

9000 Rpm Sedan: 1991 Infiniti G20 Swap

It is heartening to know that there are really fun to drive cars out there for not much coin.  The first generation (P10) Infiniti G20 was known as the Nissan Primera overseas.  It was the entry level Infiniti and came very well equipped for being a smaller car.  Enthusiasts loved the good handling from the independent suspension and eager SR20 engine.  It would be fair to consider the G20 as being the four door version of the SE-R.  Today's G20 is in much better than average condition and kicks things up a notch with the screaming JDM SR20 NEO-VVL engine.  The SR20VE was never sold in the US, but are readily available from JDM engine depots.  The Nissan VVL is very similar to Honda's V-TECH system and helps these engines make power at absurdly high rpm.  Find this 1991 Infiniti G20 for sale in Kearny, NJ for $2,500 via craigslist.

Seller Submission: 2002 Porsche Boxster S

Seller Submission from Rod: I am submitting for your consideration my 2002 Boxster S 6spd. Asking price is $11k OBO (on the low end of Good and Fair on Hagerty's scale). The car has been fantastic and driven pretty sparingly. The only reason that I am selling is that I picked up a 996 and I want the Boxster to go to a fellow driving enthusiast.

Horsefeather: 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R

There are quite a few cars on the DT favorites list that are almost NEVER found in stock/clean/low-mile configuration for just about any price.  The top of the list includes quite a few Japanese cars, including the Honda CRX, Subaru STI, DSM Talon/Eclipse/Laser, Mitsu EVO, but today we've found a real pile of rocking horse pooh -- a stock/nice/clean 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R offered for $4,500 in Cincinnati, OH via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

HP Sauce: 1980 Porsche 924

People ask me why I'm such a freak when it comes to cars.  I don't have a good answer, but my mom always says that I wasn't dropped on my head and that I was obsessed with cars at a young age, but for whatever reason...I like them odd.  Wierd.  Brown.  Slow.  Horrible.  Yup...winner, winner, liver & onions dinner.  Find this 1980 Porsche 924 offered for $2000 in Ventura, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Sean S.
