Wacky Two-Backy - 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX

Imagine if 6-year-old-you were to put together a list of your vehicular requirements, e.g. popup headlights, T-tops, diagonal tail lights, wedge shaped body, and the ability to be two different cars. It would appear that Nissan was courting the elementary school demographic in the late 1980's.  Find this 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX for sale in Bath, ON, Canada for $CAD1,000 ($USD804.26 at time of writing) via kijiji.

What Am I? Signs

It is Monday morning, and if you don't solve this What Am I? puzzle in the next few hours, the clowns are gonna eat me.

Unfinished: 1979 Bradley GT II

I love kicking off Monday with a car that has gull wing doors, is less than $1000, and lists the vin as "EXPERIMENTAL".  Three outta three ain't bad.  Find this 1979 Bradley GT II offered for $850 in Upland, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

V8agra: 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The original Mazda MX-5 Miata is still a good way to drive something that is small, light, and nimble -- it is arguably the best driving British roadster that you can drive when new, and such is true even to this day.  The Miata got a reputation for being a hairdresser's car, but a ride in this next one should put some hair on your chest (if needed).  Find this 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata V8 offered for $13,500 in Jacksonville, FL via craigslist. Tip from Jeff G.

Underapreciated Front Driver: 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege

The 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege was the first offering from the Mazdaspeed name plate.  It was to be Mazda's hot rod shop ala Mercedes AMG, BMW M-series, Ford's SVT, etc.  The Mazdaspeed was spawned from the righteous handling 2001-2 Protege MP3 model.  The MP3 name was derived from the audio MP3 file (think Napster) which was new at the time and the car was outfitted with a wacky Kenwood headunit that would do somersaults every time the car was turned on.  Well known tuner Callaway Cars was brought in to turbo charge the MP3 140 hp 2.0 engine.  The boosted engine was good for 170 hp, but developed a horrible reputation for throwing rods if you upped the boost past 10 psi.  Find this 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege for sale in Waterbury, CT for $2,900 via craigslist.

Volkswagen Inside: 1927 Track T Roadster

Whenever I see a Shelby Cobra driving on the street, I instantly assume it is a kit car...not that there is anything wrong with that, just that I'm probably dismissing the few real Cobras that might not be sitting in museums or climate controlled garages.  In a similar fashion, I also smile when I see a cool hot-rodded Ford Model T, mostly oblivious to the fact that you can buy a 1927 Track-T Roadster starter kit for $3,500...and in all likelihood, most Model Ts you see are indeed kit cars.  Like this 1927 Track T Roadster offered for $15,000 in Denver, CO. Comes With A Spare: 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R

The B13 generation Nissan Sentra isn't a particularly memorable car in basic spec, but the factory hod rod SE-R offers an oddly fun package. The combination of a robust and torquey inline-4, good brakes, light curb weight, and limited slip differential puts the SE-R into the ugly-but-good category of used cars. Find this 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R offered for $5,000 in Richmond, VA via craigslist.

Coffee Brake: Shoe Shopping With Kaibeezy

Time for DT's Coffee Brake, a break from the mundane, by Editor Vince: A few weeks ago I had chance to spend some time DT's resident logo guru Kaibeezy.  For reasons that escape me (and I cautiously neglected to inquire) Kaibeezy was without shoes, or at least without sneakers.  So, we went shopping.

Another Jaguaro: 1987 Jaguar XJ6

The Jaguar XJ wasn't the first car to get swapped with Chevy V8 power en masse (that honor goes to the Ford Model T...I think) but it is the go-to car today for people with an extra boat anchor in the garage.  Find this 1987 Jaguar XJ6 V8 offered for $6,200 in Rock Hill, SC via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Rabbit Out of the Hat: 1984 Volkswagen GTI Mk1

The Mk I GTI was a world changer and showed post fuel crisis world that a front wheel drive, reliable family econobox could be fun.  Its combination of fuel injected engine, manual rack-and-pinion steering, 2000 lb curb weight, and room for your junk put the GTI in a class of its own.  The paradigm is still true today and you don't need a spend a bunch of money to pick up a used GTI.  Find this 1984 Volkswagen GTI Mk1 offered for $3,500 in Boise, ID via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Twin Turbo Style: 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4

The Toyota Supra and Acrua NSX have become sought after collectibles, but they left behind the awesome 3000GT VR4 and the Nissan 300Z -- what is the deal?  If a 3000GT had been featured in the first Fast and Furious movie, would they be worth mint today?  Who knows, but I'll take my Japanese cars cheap and ready to be driven hard. Find this 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 offered for $4,000 in West Orange, NJ via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

A Wizard Is Never Late: 1991 BMW 850CI

The seller of this next car states in a simple sentence: O2 sensors have been cut by previous owner so the car could use a tune up it's running rich.  Umm...BMW V12s never need a simple tune up, they need a few thousand dollars of tune up time at a BMW specialist and they run exactly when they intend to run.  Find this 1991 BMW 850CI offered for $5,400 in Richmond, VA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

I Really Otherwise Can't: 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z

When a regular IROC Z isn't quite redneck enough for your needs...this thing appears. The original IROC might have been the mullet mobile, but this is the muddet mobile.  Find this 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z monster truck offered for $8,500 in Brooklyn, NY.

Mid Week Match-Up: Find A Garage Mate For An MGB GT

The other day I wandered over the railroad tracks and into a nicer part of town -- and I noticed inside a garage was an MGB GT parked next to an Audi R8.  Wow.  That is a strange combination...but it makes sense if the owner was rich enough to afford the R8, but still wanted something sensible and classic for cruising.  Most of us normal folks aren't going to buy an R8 in the near future...so...I'd like to post the question -- what goes next to an MGB GT if you wanted something fun and less than $20k.

Dubbya El Tea One 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 5.7 V8

Let's see, I really love the style of the W108 chassis Mercedes-Benz sedan, but I want the driving experience of a Chevrolet Impala SS. What to do, what to do?  Oh...I know, drop an LT1 into the W108 and call it done.  Find this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 5.7 LT1 V8 offered for $5,500 in Spokane, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Astranautical: 2008 Saturn Astra XR

For years, the only way to drive a European built econobox with a manual gearbox (other than something from VW) was to hop on jet for the continent and head to the nearest rent-a-box...BUT starting in the 2008 model year, GM imported the Opel Astra into the USA and badged it as a Saturn, which was great until they threw the Saturn brand into the GM dumpster liked a used Cobalt ignition cylinder.  Another brand bites the dust, but a shooting star always burns the brightest right before it bursts into combusted space dust.  Find this 2008 Saturn Astra XR offered for $4,200 near Boston, MA. Tip from Jeff L.

What Am I? Gassed

It is Monday Tuesday morning, time for the late version of the Monday quizz-- the What Am I? puzzle. You have to figure what is in the picture, and I'll just be here waiting.

Look At Me And My MPG! 1991 Chevy Sprint Convertible + Turbo

In high school, the Geo Metro was voted least likely car to be modified.  Today's Canadian spec Chevy Sprint convertible wears a 1990's shade of teal that has long since disappeared from automakers color charts.  The graphics on the rear quarter panel and door are reminiscent of the "Jazz" design on the Dixie cup from the same period.  These 55 hp three cylinders were known more for economy than any sort of speed especially when fitted with the three speed automatic.  Fed up with the glacial acceleration, today's seller took things into their own hands by adding a turbo set up using Home Depot and junkyard parts.  Find this 1991 Chevy Sprint Convertible for sale in Colebrook, CT for $2,500 via craigslist.
