KGB Black: 1979 Lada 2101 Zhiguli

The Lada/VAZ 2101 was compact sedan built by AvtoVAZ starting in 1970 for Eastern Bloc needs.  It doesn't have the reliability of a classic German car, the handling of a British classic, or the speed of something domestic, but it has the undeniable cool factor of a Soviet sedan.  Find this 1979 Lada 2101 Zhiguli offered for $10,500 in Marco Island, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Dascpcu.

BugeV8: 1961 Austin Healey Sprite

A few years ago we found an AWESOME V8 powered Bugeye Sprite at the Coronado Speed Festival and the seller was asking a pretty steep price for his well build treasure.  If that was a bit too rich, perhaps you'd prefer the 1/2 finished version for about a fifth of the price?  Find this 1961 Austin Healey Sprite Bugeye V8 offered for $4,500 in Milwaukee, WI via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Coffee Brake: Word Association

Happy Friday -- time for another Coffee Brake. Today, I'd like to play some DT commenter games.  Word association.  I will start with something and you guys continue the word association game in the thread below.

Olds Swap: 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT

Four cylinder Pontiac Fieros and Grumman USPS delivery vehicles were both saddled with the same push rod Iron Duke engine from General Motors.  This engine had no business being in a sports car and groaned like a constipated hippo when you hit the loud pedal.  Fiero's are ripe for engine swaps and many V8 conversions have been featured on these pages.  Today's example took the swap road less traveled with the sophisticated GM DOHC four cylinder engine called the Quad Four.  The engine was quite potent in W41 trim making 190 horsepower in the 1992-93 Old Achieva SCX and Old Cutlass Calais Quad 442.  Find this 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT for sale in Worcester, MA for $4,800 via craigslist.

Callaway #23 of 184: 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Twin Turbo

What do you get when you mix one part 'Merican Vette, one part twin turbocharged power, and one part sketchy build quality?  The answer is obvious -- a cheap car that'll be the pants off everything else from its decade of birth if it doesn't blow up.  Find this 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Twin Turbo here on eBay  bidding for $8,700 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go, located in Las Vegas, NV.

Ol' Betsy: 1954 Chevrolet Pickup

Nobody respects a perfection condition shop truck.  If it doesn't have some dings and dents in the bed, then you aren't using the truck as it should be.  Perhaps this next pile of rust might be a bit too far gone for daily driving, but you could certainly justify the exposure to tetanus for a weekend Lowes Despot hauler.  Find this 1954 Chevrolet Pickup offered for $6,500 here on eBay buy-it-now or make-offer located in Sacramento, CA with 2 days to go.

Red, Right & True: 1995 Chevrolet Corvette

Would you eat a sandwich that was left outside overnight if it was a good deal?  What about moldy cheese or only slightly moldy cheese at a big discount over non-moldy cheese.  If you think that eating slightly spoiled food to save a buck, then why would you ever buy a new car?  Find this 1995 Chevrolet Corvette here on eBay offered for $13,900 buy-it-now or make-offer in Anaheim, CA with 16 days to go.

Just a Dash: 1989 Fiat Tipo DGT

When they work, we all love digital dashes - I think this is a foregone conclusion. But apparently those in charge of naming the Fiat Tipo DGT were so fond of their pixelated panel that they named the whole entire car for it; an admirable feat. Find this 1989 Fiat Tipo DGT for sale in Providence, RI for an undisclosed number of lira via craigslist. Tip from Carter.

Future Classic: 2001 Honda S2000

Coughin or Coffin? 1970 Volkswagen Custom

And I don't say that lightly!  Find this 1970 Volkswagen Custom offered for $12,000 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean S.

Pre-Brick: 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon

The Volvo 122S Amazon went into production in 1956 when fenders were bulbous and cars were slow, but somehow it managed to survive the axe through 1970.  Total production exceeded 667,000 vehicles and the "sporty" 2-door model proved the most popular.  Find this 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon offered for $800 near Seattle, WA via craigslist.  Tip from Zach Z.

A Little Help From My Friends: 1989 Sterling 827SL

When you are down on your luck and things don't look good, call a successful friend.  That's what British Leyland did in the 1980's when they struck up a partnership to build cars in the European Union with Honda of Japan. BL hoped to build cars that would lift up its sagging image and Honda would be able to get around import restrictions imposed by the EU. One of the resulting cars was the Rover 800, sold as the Sterling here in the US.  Find this 1989 Sterling 827SL for sale in Sequim, WA for $2,900 via craigslist.

Windbeutel: 1992 Volkswagen Golf

The Mk II (2nd generation) Volkswagen Golf was introduced in 1983 as a 3-door and 5-door hatchback and was produced through the 1992 model year.  It featured basic front drive economy and was a slightly more refined (albeit heavier) version of the original Mk I Golf.  Find this 1992 Volkswagen Golf offered for $6,400 in Middlebury, VT via craigslist. Tip from Carter.

She's A Beaut Clark: 1977 Pontiac LeMans Wagon 6.0 LS

It seems today's car enthusiasts are a bit nostalgic for the station wagon.  Domestic automakers used to offer station wagons in many flavors. In the early 1990's, Ford introduced the Explorer and the SUV craze took hold leaving wagon fans in the hands of import brands Mercedes and Volvo.  Malaise era cars came with smog choked V8 engines that put out pathetic horsepower numbers.  However, the advent of the Chevy LS V8 engine has almost single-handedly breathed new life into these poor performers and created a lot of sleepers in the process.  Find this 1977 Pontiac LeMans wagon for sale in Staten Island, NY for $15,000 via craigslist.

V8 Powered: 1976 Jaguar XJ-6

The Jaguar XJ-6 was launched in 1968 and I wonder if it even took a week before the first one was powered by a small block Chevy V8.  The shoehorning of SBC into Jags is almost out of hand to the point where it would be considered objectionable...except that they add power/torque/reliability at a reduced  Find this 1976 Jaguar XJ-6 offered for $4,500 in Alameda, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

What Am I? Greasy Side Down

Welcome back to our Monday morning game of zip gun tag-- also known 'round these parts as What Am I?  Today, you get to take a look at the dirty underside of this car and figure out the make/model.

Aichi Wawa! 1970 Cony 360 Wide Pickup

The Cony 360 was a micro car/truck/van built by the Aichi Machine Industry Co, which built aircraft carriers before and during the war.  Legend has it that Airchi was the recipient of German technology between the two World Wars because the Germans were limited in what they could design/produce and had to find an outlet for their engineering efforts. After the 2nd World War the company focused their efforts on automotive endeavors like this next thing.  Find this 1970 Cony 360 Wide Pickup offered for $7,500 in Mentor, OH via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Rare Ragtop: 1959 Nash Metropolitan Convertible

This next car comes from tipper Rod444 who included some analysis with his tip:  Sure you've heard of a Nash, and probably a Nash Metropolitan if you're a car guy, but how about a Nash Metropolitan convertible? Not your typical Sunday cruiser but this one looks like a viable candidate for a great restoration.  From this 1959 Nash Metropolitan Convertible offered for $2,900 in Scottsdale, AZ via craigslist.
