Black Beauty: 1991 Toyota Century VG45L

The Toyota Century survived mostly unchanged for a remarkable 30 year long lifespan (1967-1997) akin to other immortals like the original Daimler DS420, Boeing 747 (born in 1969!!), or Joan Rivers' face.  The bumpers, headlights and other small items evolved as regulations changed, but changes to the front mounted V8 and rear-drive platform were evolutionary at best, but it's probably best to get a one from later years to avoid rust and carburetors.  Find this 1991 Toyota Century offered for $9,900 near Ft Myers, FL via craigslist.

This VG45 L-type Century is powered by the 5V-EU V8 that was rated at 190 horsepower and 238 ft-lbs of torque when new, but this car is less about the powertrain and more about the JDM style. Those fender mounted side view mirrors might be as useless as an ashtray on a motorcycle...but they look sweet.

See another V8 powered JDM classic in black?

  1. I get a headache thinking about driving a right hand drive car. I guess I could never be a mail person.........thing

    1. Try to look at the bright side of owning this when you visit heavily congested highways. RHD does in fact make it easier to pass those who are driving slowly in the left hand lane. Allowing you to make better progress on the highway. :)
(Oops,, right..must be careful...therefore,I do understand if your politics would prevent you from driving on the right! :)

    2. What I meant to say was that it would help you defeat, left lane wingnuts :)

    3. I can't help but feel it would be safer....if somebody crosses the center line and hits you head-on, you are going to be on the side furthest to the other car (if you can picture what I am talking about).

I hope to one day buy a RHD car. I never go through drive-through's unless I have somebody else in the car, so there would be no difficulty. The only thing I would worry about is people staring at me.
