Basket Case: 1972 Saab 99

This next one goes out to the adventurous of spirit and the criminally insane.  Because, let's face it, you are one or the other if you ever consider purchasing a $500 Saab 99.  Find this 1972 Saab 99 offered for $500 somewhere in the East Mountains of Mordor. Tip from FuelTruck.

Any $500 car will come with its share of unique problems (title?  missing parts? sketchy repairs? terminal rust?) but a Saab 99 comes with additional complications related to the fact that the people who designed them were insane.  The engine is installed backwards, the electrics make Lucas stuff look reliable, and the sheet metal can rust without oxygen or water. But the worst part is, despite all of these issues...I still want it.

  1. I wish sellers realized that it takes MORE info to sell a $500 car than a $3500 car sometimes. Like ya gotta give me some clues here....

    1. you know, it's a 99, in New Mexico and not rusty - if it has an engine, it's worth more than $500 - that's an if, i realize

  3. This piece of wonderful machinery is the same age as I and I'm sure millennials have the same reaction to it as they do to me.
Plus it is about the same shape I am in.

  4. I'm glad I don't live anywhere near Mordor. Since I bought my ramp truck, things like this that are near me seem real tempting.

    1. bought a ramp truck, you say? - avoided temptation, have you? - now you should buy a compressor, welder, lift and barn - see what you're really made of

  5. East of Albuquerque is commonly referred to as "The East Mountains". Or Mordor if you're so inclined. (Not an east mountains pun).

  6. I bought a 55 Chevy gasser called "neighbors complainant" the East Mountains. The land is littered with cars out there.
