Prinz of Sharpness: 1960 NSU Sport Prinz

I don't get it.  NSU is a rare make.  The Sport Prinz is a cool model.  And this next one is a scruffy pile of parts, but it is bidding for pauper money.  Those guys on that other site would easily drop big Trump sized piles of cash on a restored Sport Prinz, so why no love for this scruffy looking pile of "ran when borked?"  Find this 1960 NSU Sport Prinz here on eBay bidding for $2,550 with a few hours to go, located in quirky Albuquerque (home of the inventory of the querty keyboard), NM.

There it is -- the stylish result of Franco Scaglione's time at Bertone Studios in Turino, Italia -- this pint sized meatball makes a Porsche 912 seem fast and makes a Sunbeam Alpine seem commonplace.  Plus, it has tail fins.

Under the rear mounted decklid is a 583cc (that's 35.6 cubic inches for the Americans in the audience...which is less than the typical gain from adding a stroker kit to your Camero) inline-twin that puts out something like negative 16 horsepower, but the seller claims it can hit 99mph...maybe if dropped from an airplane.

  1. I'm trying to figure out if putting a Suzuki Katana motor in there would be awesome or terrifying.

  2. I like the way the engine cover just lifts off. I too was wondering about a repower, but seems like a lot of hurdles to adapt it to a modern bike engine/transmission unless you went mid-engined.

    1. I wonder if you could set up a Saab Monte Carlo for reverse rotation and just drop it in there?

    2. @hunsbloger - how about we just fix both the Saab Monte Carlo and the NSU Prinz instead?
