The first generation Ford Mustang is generally understood to have been built from 1964 through 1973, but the later cars were significantly different in many ways. The same basic chassis, suspension, and powertrain might have been under them, but the later models are considerably cheaper in any condition. Find this 1972 Ford Mustang Coupe offered for $4,000 in Ft Myers, CO via craigslist. Tip from Dascpcu.

The Lotus Elise was introduced in 1996 as the ultimate in minimalist mid-engined motoring bliss -- but the Series 1 Elise was never imported to the United States. We had to wait until 2005 when the series 2 Elise was federalized for sales in the US, which only lasted until 2011. Today, prices for the Elise are about as low as they will ever be (arguably trending upwards), so pick one up before they get out of reach. Find this 2006 Lotus Elise here on eBay offered for $23,500 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in San Diego, CA.

Harvey Crane Jr was the man behind the company known as Crane Cams that has been building and selling custom cams since 1953. Crane pass away in 2013, but not before being inducted into the SEMA Hall of Fame, East Coast Drag Racing Hall of Fame, and doing more for the automotive valve than just about anybody else. To honor his legacy, you could buy one of his camshafts for your hot rod or you could buy his old Mercedes. Find this 1982 Mercedes Benz 500SL offered for an undisclosed price in Saddle River, NJ via craigslist. Tip from Cory.
Coffee Brake: It is time for everyone here to take a minute from scouring the internet for cheap used cars and instead think a little bit about the woman who gave birth to you. Yup. Mother's day is next weekend (Sunday May 8th), but you've probably been up to your elbows in Volvo wiring harness repair and haven't gotten anything for her -- fear not, DT is here to help.
Before BMW was known for its M series, iDrive, and xDrive, they had offerings in the same market as the air-cooled VW Beetle. It doesn't get a whole lot more basic than the Isetta when it comes to enclosed transportation, but in the years to follow you could get something more conventional looking from BMW. As modest as it seems, this flyweight happens to be a champion for the marque. Find this 1963 BMW 700 Sport Coupe here on eBay here on eBay for sale in Lyons, CO bidding at $5,000.
Thanks to TheStig for the tip!
It is Thorsday -- time for something Scandinavian -- how about a Volvo 122 Amazon that looks like it
has scabies needs some attention? The Amazon (or 120 series as it was known at home) was designed by Volvo designer Jan Wilsgaard, who was inspired by 1950s American cars when he designed the shape of the little sedan in the mid 50s. Production of the Amazon started in 1956 and continued all the way through 1970 -- get a later car to benefit from additional development. Find this 1967 Volvo 122 Amazon offered for $2,500 in Santa Fe, NM. Friend of the seller submission by Philip.

The Volvo 262C Bertone was a variant of Volvo's 200-series that featured a chop-top vinyl covered greenhouse and assembly at the Bertone factory in Turin, Italy. It all sound great until you realize that it was powered by a French V6 -- except for this one today. Find this 1980 Volvo 262C Bertone V8 Custom here on eBay bidding for $3,809 reserve-not-met with $8,900 buy-it-now located in Oklahoma City, OK.
For this week's Thursday Twister, I'm not going to ask you to identify cars that had a particular feature or favorite such-in-such, instead I am asking you to come up with future Twister quiz ideas. How about that for a twist?
The SJ generation Jeep Wagoneer was produced from 1962 through 1991 and holds the unique title of being the world's first luxury 4X4 sport utility vehicle. Back before the Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen littered prep school drop-off zones, this was the vehicle that wealthy country club cowboys bought for their first wives, and tried to get their second wives to use -- but being twenty years younger, wife 2.0 would normally demand something sportier like a Mercedes SL. Perhaps with a bit of persuading she would drive a Vortec V8 powered Wagoneer? Find this 1979 Jeep Wagoneer with GM 5.3 Vortec V8 swap here on eBay bidding for $10,001 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go, located in French Settlement, LA.
Each year, there are tiny cars you may never knew existed becoming legal for import to the US as their 25 year import ban expires. Kei cars, limited in power, displacement and size, are afforded special tax breaks in Japan to promote space, fuel consumption, and emissions economy. To compete in this category, manufacturers had to get creative and the result is a lot of cool in some little cars. Find this 1990 Daihatsu Mira Turbo Tr-XX Limited for sale in Marion, IA for $6,499 via craigslist.

If you follow the DT Radio show you might have noticed that Producer Ben has a thing about BMWs and his thing is that he dislikes them and belittles anyone who is a fan -- however, he recently had the opportunity to drive an old E28 5-series for a few days and positively loved it. For this week's Mid Week Match-Up, I'd like you to help find a BMW for Ben for around $5-10k. Must have manual gearbox, seating for 4, and decent paint.
The Saab 900 classic was produced through the 1993 model year (we don't need to talk about the GM2900 platform thing that had Saab badges but no soul) but its platform was just a slightly revamped version of the Saab 99 which started life way back in the mid 1960s. Over the years Saab gradually refined the backward engine oddball into something that combined heritage, utility, and strange handling -- think of it like a slow, cheap, and front-drive Porsche 911. Find this 1991 Saab 900 Turbo offered for $4,900 in Cabot, VT via craigslist. Tip from Art C.
