Reduced Price: 1971 Mercury Capri LSX Turbo

I have to admit that I get easily excited about certain cars -- and the first generation Ford/Mercury Capri is one of those cars.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the firebreathing LSX turbocharged Capri from last month did not find a buyer and is now offered for a discounted price.  Find this 1971 Mercury Capri LSX Turbo offered for $10,500 in Rising Sun, MD via craigslist.  Seller submission from John.

If you missed the original post, let me give the basic dimensions.  This sub 3000 lb car (probably in the 2500 lb range) is equipped with a 5.3 liter iron block version of the Chevrolet LSX that has been turbocharged to produce something around 600 horsepower.

Seriously, I don't know why this car is still for sale, it is such a fine example of what you can achieve when you've got access to a welder and gasoline in your veins.

  1. Any idea what the gizmo is in the ad photo of the rear differential and tires: it looks like a cooling fan with a grille over it pointing downwards. Its located near the right rear tire.

  2. Good catch.
Sure does look like a fan and appears to be under the battery area in the trunk. Doesn't appear to be a differential cooler.
