Cheap Thrills: 1966 Ford Mustang

It could be time to perform a social experiment on yourself with a bit of automotive introspection - is the ponycar lifestyle for me? Do the perks of infinite parts availability, sound, style, and burnout giggles outweigh everyone else having one, too? Find out cheaply with this 1966 Ford Mustang for sale in Walterboro, SC for $4,000 via craigslist.

For starters, we know that the seller is trustworthy as there's a Turbo Coupe T-Bird in the yard. There are a few warning signs like the bunghole where the lock cylinder used to be, horrific wheels, and rust on the lip of the trunk but this could be a good starting point for a track car or vehicle for hooliganism.

The motor appears to be a fairly fresh 289 backed by a C4 which, if you don't mind relinquishing control over gear selection, is not a bad box. Let's not forget that in '66, a Mustang weighed only 2,800lbs. with all of the fancy stuff tacked on. A stripper like this could weigh as little as 2,500lbs., depending on how much of the body has rotted off.
