Hip To Be Square: 1980 Chevrolet Malibu Coupe

By Cory-- Do you like your car’s styling cues to be made with a straight edge and protractor? Think of this 1980 Malibu as the American version of the Volvo 240 but with a proper 350ci V8 already in there! This particular GM A-body coupe will help make all your Street Outlaws dreams come true. Find this 1980 Chevrolet Malibu Coupe for sale in Wales, MA for a relatively modest ask of $5250.

The seller lists an extensive list of drivetrain mods from brands any gear head over the age of forty will easily recognize. Highlights include a heavily breathed on 350 engine, B&M ratchet shifter, turbo 350 trans, 4.11 posi rear end, Holley 650 double pumper carb, Hooker headers, Thrush mufflers, and Mickey Thompson rear meats on American Racing rims.

These modifications add up to a car that recently ran a 12.9 ¼ mile at a 104 mph. The malaise spec 350 ci engine only wheezed out 140 horsepower.

Despite all the crazy go-fast parts, the exterior is the by far the most noteworthy aspect of the car. The tri-color paint scheme was done a year and a half ago seems to be vaguely inspired by the ZZ top Eliminator car. The neon green accent color is carried over to front and rear bumpers for a less than subtle effect.

  1. Nice other then the green push thing-a-ma-jig !

    1. I agree, the bumpers aren't horrible, but would look much better with a quick rattle-can application of flat black paint.

  2. This reminds me of the cars featured on the weathered 5x7 photo prints tacked up on machine shop and towing company corkboards. Kinda loving the late 1980's calendar style these days.
