Face For Radio: 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata "Pit Crew Custom"

I'm not going to say that this is a face that only a mother could love because a few people find this particular modification to the MX-5 pleasing to the tune of $3k plus shipping and the mini Cobra attitude grows on me each time I refresh the image. And besides, if this is your car, you can paint a Campbell's soup can on the side for all I care -- ignore the haters, and PitCrew your MX-5! Or save your cash and buy this already completed 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata "Pit Crew Custom" offered for $8,000 in Ann Arbor, MI via craigslist. Tip from Derrick.

At first I was confused about the meaning of Pit Crew in this context, but then I recalled the incident in which Kobayashi (Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber F1 fame, not Takeru Kobayashi of 97 hot dogs in 12 minutes fame) ran over half his pit crew --so I'm guessing that they grafted this front end onto Kobayashi's daily driver as some kind of retribution.  Well played Pit Crew...well played.

If the Ace front end isn't custom enough for you, the interior features a spattering of chrome goodies, and a set of gauges that look very "60s".  The interior includes an assortment of bolt on parts, including a set of GarageStar delrin door bushings -- hey guess what, you can hear Ken from GarageStar talking around minute 45 of the DT Radio Show with Ashley LeLuca

See another strange but cool looking custom?

  1. So a Grantura and a Miata walk into a bar....

  2. I'm not super keen on this white one, but the black one in the "a few people" link above is attractive (or would be, once I got those stretched tires off it).

  3. ~ If body-mods or custom sports built around the Miata MX5 are of interest to you, I suggest that you research Simpson Design. You will not be disappointed !

  4. You know, I use to torture my sister for looking like this.
"Do you get good radio stations with that retainer"?
I can just hear this car saying Shhhtop Theeasing me!
