This is a fantastic find, a true one owner 1973 Jaguar XJ6. Bought new at Weber and Cooper British Leyland in Ventura, Ca,where it has lived it’s whole life. It was ordered in the unusual color of Signal Red a color more associated with E Types than the more sedate sedan. The paint is all original and still presents very well there is a ding on the front fender from the garage door and other small imperfections but it is in such great original condition it would be a shame to touch it. So of course this car is completely free from rust and accident damage.
The interior is all original and the black hide is undamaged and nicely patinated it might benefit from a light dye but we will let the next custodian make this decision, the dash is beautiful and presents very well the wood is very good also. Overall this car has survived remarkably well having spent spent most of it’s life tucked up in a warm garage and only used for highdays and holidays. The owner was a well known local photojournalist so it still sports it’s CB radio antenna, it also had California Press Photographer licence plates so the plates on the car are for display only if sold in California it will be issued with new plates when registered
Mechanically the car is great, we replaced the front shocks ,changed the oil, flushed the cooling system and replaced a couple of hoses. The car is on an old matching set of Michelins that will need to be replaced please take that in to account when bidding . It could probably use further mechanical improvement having not been used much in the last 25 years, but the engine, transmission and brakes seem superb, and as usual a mechanical check is both welcome and encouraged.
These early SWB XJ6s are becoming increasingly rare especially with the original engines they are also undervalued and offer fantastic value for money. Finding one with this provenance and condition is rare indeed.

ReplyDeleteThis is better than half a dozen college girls, a pint of baby oil, and a webcam.
It's probably a touch classier too but I guess that's part of the college girls' charm.
DeleteMaybe I'll just buy the car and they can webcam the weekly car wash.
DeleteI'll happily buy the soap and the sponges.
I have to say I'm not so much surprised at this conversation as I am that it came up over this particular individual car - Viper maybe, or a Countach, or something - let me see if I can verify that theory...
DeleteI see your head shaking not so much in anger as in sorrow...
Deletehmm... not anger... not sorrow... torschlußpanik?

ReplyDeleteThe steelies and the Hawker Typhoon grille are tasty.
ReplyDeleteComing down to the close at $6600. It's damn well worth that. A pretty, straight, apparently rustfree pre-bumper SWB XJ in a color other than boring chalky British Industrial Malaise Green.
ReplyDeleteWhether you want stock or whether you've already ordered that crate LSA, it could be worth a lot more.
This is another one of those 'if I didn't already...'
DeleteI'm tempted to offer him a trade for an E39 M5.
