Auction Watch: 1989 Peugeot 405 Mi16

Take a look at this 1989 Peugeot 405 Mi16 here on eBay bidding for $1,009 reserve-not-met with auction ending on Saturday at 5:46AM PST.

  1. Ok. Finally I am going to jump in and buy a Peugeot after years of hearing what basically crap cars they are (but talk to the local Francophile and they will wax on about their Gallic verve and unique traits).

Now I get on EBay (what can go wrong?) and I see the seller is a person with a 66% positive rating. There are only 3 transactions and 2 two are when he/she bought something on ebay.

The only thing he sold earned some pretty ripe comments regarding some alleged misstatements regarding a Hillman Minx. Really now.

That's three transactions in the last year. Going back further, there are many sales, and the rest are positive. The person complaining about the condition of the Hillman Minx bought it for $600, so I'm not quite sure what kind of condition he expected it to be in.

None of this would stop me (and this is entirely personal) from buying a car from him. I wouldn't buy a 27 year old French car without being able to inspect it in person anyway, so what he says about it doesn't really matter.

    2. Tom, if you're local enough to the seller, try to go do a pre-purchase inspection and test drive before bidding. If not, see if you can find someone local to do it for you.

Worst case, ebay bids are not binding if the car ends up to be misrepresented.

  2. Good advice, I appreciate it. I see really nice ones of these in the Northeast starting to creep up. Several in the $4-5K range. Prime cars to be sure. Thanks guys.Tom
