NACA Duct Tape: 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

The Porsche 924 Turbo was the answer to the question that... wait...what's this another 924 Turbo in the span of a week, these are piles of junk -- hey, you leave the 931 alone, it had the coolest hood you could buy in 1980. Hey, there Mr Porsche, you are forgetting about the Z28 Camaro's air induction scoop -- That's it, who invited Capt America to this discussion?  Like it or not, we're featuring this 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo offered for $3,500 in Irwindale, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Thursday Twister: Factory Air Bags

Welcome to another edition of the  Thursday Twister, DT's favorite quiz game where the answers are written on the wall of men's rooms.  Today, I want to bring up the subject of airbags -- not the aftermarket kind that can be used to slam your whip to the ground, but the stock kind that are used to maintain ride height in luxury automobiles.  The twister today is simple -- just name all the factory air bag equipped cars.

'Murica: 1954 GMC 250 Dump Bed Pickup

There are few things more American than a classic pickup....especially one that has a modified inline-6 pushing power to the rear wheels, a wood sided custom dump bed, and a Bald Eagle covered in Old Glory bursting from the hood.  Prepare yourself for a healthy dose of freedom.  Find this 1954 GMC 250 Dump Bed Pickup here on eBay bidding for $3,050 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go, located in Manchester, TN.

Another Rotary Motorcycle: 1976 Suzuki RE5

When it rains, it pours...right?  If the oddball Wankel powered Hercules W-2000 didn't offer the right combination of unreliability, fuel/oil consumption, funky space age looks, and low end torque...perhaps this next Wankel powered two-wheeler will.  This is no ordinary Suzuki -- it features styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro, a rotary engine, and an exhaust note like nothing else on the planet.  Find this 1976 Suzuki RE5 Rotary Engine Motorcycle here on eBay bidding for $6,000 reserve-not-met with $9,750 buy-it-now located in Dayton, OH. Tip from Hugh.

Mid Week Match-Up: Wheels for the College Girl

It might be late on Wednesday night, but there is always time for a Mid Week Match-Up! Today's request for help comes from Powerhouse who writes:
Daughter is finishing her first year of college in Minnesota.  She's going to need a vehicle for the summer break, holiday breaks and occasional campus use.  Being here in the snow belt we would like her to have AWD.  She shared a hand-me-down Jeep Grand Cherokee with her brother and likes the SUV size and ride.  She will also be traveling across the Midwest for soccer stuff so we want something that can hold a bunch of girls and their gear.  Emphasis is on dependability - we don't want her breaking down hundreds of miles from home.  Decent gas mileage would be nice.  Has to be an automatic.  She views vehicles as appliances rather than performance machines or fashion accessories.  No funky colors or oddball shapes (We're looking at you Scion xB!)

Auction Watch: 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 TPI Swap

Check out this 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 TPI Swap here on eBay bidding for $4,011 with auction ending Thursday at 6:45AM PST.

Senior Compact: 1962 Buick Special V8 Convertible

The Special returned to the Buick lineup in 1961 after a two year hiatus -- but instead of being an entry level full-size, it was now a compact unibody sedan built on GM's Y-platform.  The Buick, Oldsmobile, & Pontiac "senior compacts" shared the same unibody undercarriage, suspension, and aluminum V8, but styling was up to each individual brand.  Find this 1962 Buick Special V8 Convertible offered for $4,500 in Sacramento, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Welcome Contributing Writer Andy Liss To DT

What would a website be without change?  Well...if you really want to know, head over to NSYNC's website, which looks like it hasn't been updated since Timberlake exposed whatsherface's breast during a Super Bowl halftime show...seriously the site has links to myspace pages...which for young whippersnappers in the audience, is like facebook but without decency and privacy!  Anyway...I'm getting off track here...oh yeah, back to business, I'd like to welcome DT's latest contributor, a man who needs little introduction because he has been tipping, commenting, and writing stories for Daily Turismo since about the last time NSYNC updated their website.   He is Andy Liss, DT's latest contributing writer.

Someone Explain This To Me: '67 Mazda Cosmo versus '79 Cadillac Spirit of Nemo

De gustibus non est disputandum is the Latin saying that roughly translates to in matters of taste, there can be no disputes.  That's all good and well if you are some kind of Roman theologian, but when the rubber hits the road at an auction, I prefer the maxim -- si carpentum abominationum, non occurrit reservare.  However, these next two auctions on eBay have me totally confounded.  Checkout this 1967 Mazda Cosmo here on eBay bidding for $36,501 with 1 day to go, and this 1979 Cadillac Fleetwood based "Spirit of Nemo" here on eBay bidding for $48,100 with 1 day to go (both cars have not met reserve).

Auction Watch: 1996 Toyota RAV4 3S-GTE Swap

Check out this 1996 Toyota RAV4 3SGTE Swap here on eBay bidding for $0.99 reserve-not-met with $4,500 buy-it-now.

Fiskbilen: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The Volvo 1800ES was a shooting brake (2-door wagon) version of Volvo's aging 1800 platform.  It was launched in the 1973 model year and 8,000 units were shipped before 1800 went out of production in 1974.  Today's example is a nice looking yellow example of the Fiskbilen (Swedish for fish van) offered for a reasonable price. Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES offered for $16,500 in Mission Hills, CA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Tamas.

Z Best Condition: 1984 Datsun 300ZX

It was with the Z31 generation of Nissan's Z-car that the gloves finally came off in the great Japanese sports car wars.  The previous generation featured a turbocharged model that was released in 1981, but a compact V6 fed via a turbo wasn't introduced until the Z31 hit the showrooms in late 1983 as a 1984 model year...but that doesn't really mean much for this next feature, because it is the homely T-top equipped 2+2 version.  Find this 1984 Datsun 300ZX offered for $2,800 in Sherman Oaks, CA via craigslist.

C-Note: 1975 Custom C Cab Three Wheeler

Back before the rise of video games, young male gearheads spent many hours building plastic models of cars.  Monogram had a popular series of hot rod customs by famed designer Tom Daniel. I spent many hours myself building his creations like The Red Baron, Paddy Wagon and Bad Medicine.  In a fit of nostalgia a while back, I bought a copy of Bad Medicine off eBay and built it.  For this guy a 1/24 scale custom based on a C Cab wasn't enough.  Find this 1975 Custom C Cab Three Wheeler for sale in Buckley, WA for $9,500 via craigslist.

SnoPed Two-fer: 1970 Chrysler Marine Sno Runner

Sometime on a cold winter day in the late 1960s, a jazzy suit wearing Chrysler product man had a brilliant idea.  Imagine combining the snow slaying capability of a snowmobile with the fun & cost of a moped -- and the Sno Runner was born.  Find these 1970s Chrysler Marine Sno Runners offered for $1,000 in La Habra, CA via craigslist.

RHD Diesel Crewcab: 1987 Nissan Datsun Pickup D21

The Nissan D21 generation pickup truck was first badged as a Datsun when sold for the 1980 model year, but in the mid 80s it was part of the strange Nissan / Datsun transition. The US market was limited to the standard and king cab versions, but other folks around the world got the 4-door Crew Cab version with a short 4 1/2 foot bed.  Find this 1987 Nissan Datsun Pickup D21 offered for $13,500 in Southern California via craigslist.  Tip from SafetyFast.
