Seller Submission: 1997 Chevrolet Corvette C5

The C5 generation Corvette was a huge leap forward compared to the C4 generation -- and not just because the new LS-series V8 was more powerful, or that the interior was "nicer", but most importantly, the chassis wasn't as floppy as the C4 a lawn chair zip-tied to a skateboard.  If you want to go fast for a small amount of money, it doesn't get much better than a C5 Vette.  Find this 1997 Chevrolet Corvette C5 offered for $15,500 in Deltona, FL via craigslist.  Seller Submission from Jim.

This Corvette comes from the first year of C5 production, and it is the fastback coupe version (the convertible was also available in '97, but the hardtop/fixed roof coupe was not released until 1999) and is equipped with a removable T-top.  It has 82k miles on the odometer and is 100% stock with no issues.

Powering the C5 is a 5.7 liter LS1 V8 that was rated at 345 horsepower and mated to a Borg-Warner T-56 6-speed manual.  The C5 is one of the few cars you can find that gets 28 mpg on the highway, but can hit 175 mph if you have enough room.

  1. I had a 99 FRC that I sold about 8 years ago, and I miss that car. It seems that prices bottomed out a while back too because I'd expect this car to be going for a little less.

  3. I guess dynamically if you're buying a C5 you need to look for a Z06, but aesthetically they're the least attractive of the bunch. There's something about the control locations in the C5 that's always put me off on them as a road car, I fit in the car just fine in terms of overall size, but the shifter's too far back and this is in the way and that's not where it needs to be and so forth.
