It can be a car from a TV show, like Magnum PI's Ferrari, or a car from real life, like Paul Newman's V8 Volvo (with puffer). But it has to be a car that makes you think of a particular person, or a person that makes you think of a car. It doesn't even have to be a celebrity -- it could be your auto Edna and a C3 Corvette...you just gotta make the story convincing.
Standard contest rules are as follows:
1. Only one car per comment (be sure to hit the refresh button on your browser before you post, in case someone else has posted since you loaded the page). Do not nest the replies, just reply to the main post -- if you reply to someone else's comment it should be in reference to his comment and not another submission.
2. The contest never end.
3. One submission per make/model.
4. Each car must be a production model.
5. No anonymous submissions -- pick a name with the Name/URL dropdown.
Ready....Set...celebrate!
Point of contention -
ReplyDelete1. person, or
2. character, or
3. doesn't matter - both!
3 -- Anybody. Any car.

I'll suggest this one is tied more to Belushi than Akroyd because I think there's a better Akroyd vehicle out there..........

A local cinema screened the 35mm print back in September. It was in New York City, but everyone showed up with car logo shirts and hats, notably cheering when the 440 Challenger pulled away from the E-type. Clevon Little as Supersoul is an absolute thrill to behold and there was a palpable joy during his scenes. (this was the same downbeat theater where I saw Dames du Bois de Boulogne and so many others with downtown heroin addicts. Cars can serve to unite.) Those guys really were the apotheosis of cool; there are no parallels these days.

ReplyDeleteAnd the one character most closely related to the Sherman in that era was, of course, Gavin McLeod's Moriarty (or possibly Donald Sutherland's Oddball) in "Kelly's Heroes"
