Mid Week Match-Up: A Ramp Truck For SlowBoy

Today's Mid Week Match-Up request comes from SlowBoy who writes: I need a ramp truck. Road kill bought a sweet one for $3500. Classic Motorsports evidently got one, a nice 73 Ford for $2500. I really want one that isn't a rust bucket. I'm ok with topping their budgets, but I don't want to get red flakes in my eyes when I slide underneath to replace the fuel pumps.

This thing might end up costing a bit when the auction ends, but this 1994 Ford Superduty Ext-Cab F-350 Hodges 18' Ramp Truck Car Hauler found here on eBay is bidding for $4,300 with 4 days to go.  It isn't a classic hauler (yet) but it looks cool and will get the job done.  Can you find something better? Comments below.

  1. I've got to ask the question. Ramp truck or Flat Bed hydraulic unit? My guess is ramp truck is cheaper to buy and maintain but has a huge storage footprint.

    1. Hydraulic roll-offs are big money. I saw one on the local CL, mid 80's, rusty and terrible, but because it was fully functional, the guy was asking like 16 grand. Fixed ramp bed is the sweet spot.

    2. Our markets must be a bit different. Almost never see ramp beds here (Texas). Almost always hydraulic roll offs. Typically it's a rolloff that's seen some time and use. i.e. leaking hydraulics and beds that while functional aren't suitable for daily towing use. They do run about 8 to 10k in that shape but do pop up from time to time. Usually car dealerships or small repair shops offloading older roll backs.

    3. Seems the low end of the market is around 12k now.

How cool is this one? (Sorry, don't think it's for sale).

  3. $6K for this '85 Chevy in Belfair, WA.

  4. This type of article is interesting and fun to read. I like reading and I am always searching for informative info like this. High Performance Cylinder Sleeve
