14k Miles: 1987 Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86

Would you ever consider dropping nineteen large on a used Toyota Corolla?  Yeah, me neither...but what if that Corolla was one of the classic rear-drive AE86 generation equipped with the legendary GT-S TwinCam motor and had only 14,500 miles? Find this 1987 Toyota Corolla GTS AE86 offered here on eBay for $19,000 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in Waxhaw, NC.  Tip from Abraham.

The AE86 Corolla GT-S was the last of the long line of rear drive economy cars from Toyota and has become a collectible in its own right.  Today's example isn't wearing stock wheels, and is equipped with a number of TRD performance parts from back in the day.  The seller thinks they may have been installed by the dealer who raced it on track, so it has a few cosmetic imperfections and some of those miles may have been from track use.

Powering the GT-S is a 1.6 liter Toyota 4A-GEU inline-4 good for 112 horsepower in US spec.  It doesn't sound like much power ('cause it isn't) but the 1900 lb hatchback is going to be fun to toss around in the turns and isn't a bad looking car for the mid 1980s.

The overall condition of the car is a bit confusing; it looks nice in the pictures (inside and out) but the seller cautions that it does have dings/scrapes/small dents all over, but "still is in amazing condition."  Whatever the condition, this seems like a cool car with an interesting history.

  1. Would look even better if the wheels weren't so flashy.

    1. I'm thinking a 225/45-16 is maybe a bit tall for that car, but I like the Rota RB wheels a lot.

  2. That is very nice but way more than I am comfortable spending on anything.

  3. I get the RWD vs FWD argument, but it's funny to me to see how revered these have become. In high school, when these were new, these cars were the consolation prize if you couldn't swing a GTi or Scirocco 16v.

    1. In terms of longevity and desirability: they've got the RWD thing going, plus they don't have K-Jet fuel injection...

  4. The AE86 introduced in 1984 had a 4AGE engine, which was monotronic fuel injected, that produced 124 BHP which was also used in the Corrolla Lift back the 1.6 Celica and finally the first MR2's It's predecesor the Corrola DOHC was corburator fed and produced 112 horses.
