20k: Show Me The Goods! 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV Turbo

Pro tip of the day:  If you have an Alfa Romeo GTV tipo 105 and you want to sell it, pictures are great. Multiple pictures.  Five is a good starting point.  However, if that GTV has a turbocharged engine that shoots fire and pushes 300 horsepower at 8000 rpm into its rear tires...for the love of Berlusconi, you need to include at least one underhood picture.  Find this 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV Turbo offered for $25,000 in Los Angeles, CA via craiglist..  Tip from Sean S.

Not only does the seller not include a single underhood or interior shot, but every other picture in the listing is taken from the same 3/4 view of the front driver's side.  Look, I get it.  The seller clearly describes how he has a GT350 in his garage he needs to get up and running and I see a 68 Notchback Mustang and some kind of Chrysler front-drive coupe (maybe even a Shelby CSX), so he is going to spend every waking moment doing maintenance on his cars and doesn't have time for detailed underhood pics.

There it is again. The 300 horsepower "Jafco" turbocharged Alfa GTV in 3/4 view.  I have to admit that I do approve of the wheel choice and everything else, except the price.  The price could be lower.

  1. Easy! The banned Dario Argento horror movie Tenebre is where it's at for a GTV film sighting. Warning; violence towards animals and torture-porn (two things I detest). Still, fast forward through those parts (you'll know) and you've got a fantastic thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat all scored with fantastically cheesy music. The television show The Prisoner was too obvious.

    1. BTW, the entire film is on YT, dubbed in English. I hate that; try to get a subtitled copy to watch. Again, this was rated as X. But it's nothing compared to what you can see today. Thems were the days!

  2. Um, no. Not at this price after factoring in the cost of rebuilding the engine because turbo. The paucity of pix makes this one a pass.

  3. I would buy this if I could. If the body looked rust/repair clean and the interior was nice I think it is a fair price. The GTV prices have been going through the roof and I don't see them coming back down.

  4. Oh wow, it's Keith Magnusson's old car. Keith owne Ralliround in Seattle for many years, an indy Alfa shop that was also a dismantler. I bought a few used parts for my GTV from Keith over the years. Keith dailied this car for many years and was blisteringly fast at Alfa Club track days at SIR. Keith sold Ralliround years ago, I didn't realize he sold the black GTV as well.

    2. If it was my street, the ground would be wet and the skies would be grey and rainy. ;-)

    3. Not one I've heard. Must not have any twangy guitar with slapback echo or drippy reverb on it.

    5. If you like that kind of music, I will put in a shameless plug for my friends guitar music show on the local community radio station: Frettin' Fingers It's on Saturday mornings at 11 AM Pacific. KSER streams it live thru the interwebs if ya wanna tune in.

  6. The cop car in the background of the first photo seems to be waiting for the 300 bhp to be unleashed again. Allo, Allo wots all this tire smoke then?

    1. Mission accomplished, he's added a shed load of photos. The car is rather rusty and crusty on the typical GTV problem areas.

    1. Ha ha! Nice, Ken M. You're right. For me, I never got past the 25K part. But that's no reflection on the car, only my cheapness.
