10k: Instant Success: 2005 Lexus LS 430

Everybody knows that if you are a pompous douchebag and you've made it, you go out and buy a brand new E-Class or 5-series BMW.  It isn't simply a choice, in some professions and locations, specifically marketing manager and Los Angeles respectively, you are bound by contract to buy one of these overpriced new luxury sedans.  But, what if you are a cheapskate and just want to look rich without shelling out all the gains from your ill gotten profit sharing check?  What you need is a used Lexus LS sedan.  Find this 2005 Lexus LS 430 here on eBay currently bidding for $12,051 with 2 days to go, located in Boca Raton, FL.

With all the money you've saved by picking up a used car, you'll be able to buy that lady you met at last sales conference a nice tennis bracelet, perhaps something for your wife, and a new burner phone for yourself (in case the mistress goes all psycho on you -- sheesh, that was just pillow talk, you aren't really going to leave your wife, she's a partner at a law firm and will eat your ass in a divorce).

The LS is powered by a 4.3 liter V8 that puts out 290 horsepower and 320 ft-lbs of torque in to a slushbox automatic transmission, but mostly it does its job quietly and obediently with minimal need to have some greasy gloved mechanic replace costly parts at exorbitant costs.  With only 65k miles on the odometer, this thing is just getting broken in.

  2. Ah yes, but you see, those pompous douchebags lease their cars to make it *look* like they've made it, just like entry level account managers lease the 3'er and C-class to fit in. They then drive their leased German conveyance to their rented apartment, where they remove their shoes so they don't soil the area rug that they're still paying off on their way to watch their TV that isn't yet paid off, while sitting on their expensive furniture that, you guessed it, is still racking up interest charges on their credit card. Source: lived in LA, had to deal with aforementioned types daily.

In debt up to their eyeballs, it's the American dream!

The smart money is, as you've pointed out, on this low mileage LS430. Their depreciation curve mirrors their German counterparts, yet unlike the aforementioned Teutonic competition, these things are actually pretty damned reliable. Nice car, nice color (so many of these are gold...er... beige), nice price.

  3. About the most dependable boat you can by, and there is a ton of them under 10 k with under 50k miles in southern Florida.

  5. Thanks for the link Tom....I couldn't help browsing the guy's site and found this little gem. My FIL had one of these when new, and much has been said about the build quality of this generation ML (and I won't argue), but man, it would be impossible to find a body-on-frame SUV with an AMG V8 and low range AWD for $10k-ish. This one appears to have been seriously well-loved---just look at the condition of that driver's seat.

    1. ehhh, nevermind.....it's still in nice shape but it's a ML500, not a ML55....someone just spend a helluva lot of money to make it look like one.

Save $10k and take Ambien before each Uber ride---same feeling as driving a LS.
