15k: Black Plate Special: 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback

Listen up kids.  You should study in school.  You need to stop huffing glue and start hitting the text books.  Because those grades will make a difference as to which school you go to and later how big your paycheck is...because it isn't too late.  Sure, you'll never be able to afford a C2 Corvette, E30 M3, or anything with the Shelby name (that isn't a Dodge)...but...you can still pick up a '69 Fastback for a reasonable price.  For the next 5 minutes at least.  Find this 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback here on eBay currently bidding for $15,300 with 4 days to go, located in Anaheim, CA.

The '69 Mustang is considered part of the first generation of Mustang, but it was really the 2nd cosmetic update on the original model (65-66, 67-68, 69-70) and was starting to get bigger/heavier to deal with all the high powered competition.  Earlier Fastbacks are extremely pricey, but the '69 Fastback (now renamed SportsRoof) version was produced in proportionally higher quantities helping us regular folks out in the supply side of the economic equation 50 years later.

This is not a Mach 1 or a Boss 302; per the door tag it is just a standard low spec Fastback, one of many.  It was originally covered with a ghastly shade of teal-blue that was called Aztec Aqua -- probably some reference to the fact that the Aztecs practiced live human sacrifice.  In 2009 it was resprayed with what looks to be T-code Candy Apple Red paint and given some other cosmetic attention.

Under the hood is a 302 cubic inch (5.0 liter) V8 that would have originally been fed via a 2-bbl carburetor and rated around 220 horsepower.  Now it breathes through an Edelbrock carb and spark comes from an HEI, so expect a few more ponies to reach the C-4 automatic.

See another car with longer tailpipe extensions? tips@dailyturismo.com

  1. Don't look now, but it's over 20K already. For that price you could find an early fastback, though not in this condition. It's a great looking car no doubt, though for another 5K you would be in Cuda territory and they are even nicer. The first thing I'd do if I owned this car is remove the garish looking chrome tail pipe extensions.

  2. You can have a good argument whether the '69 or the '70 was the prettiest Mustang ever...nothing else ever really gets close.
