Frankenbenz: 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL Chevy V8

After the gift of a goldsmobile from the first wise man, the second (Melchior) presents his gift to the newborn baby Jesus, it is the perfect combination of speed and class for the newborn king-- a V8 powered Frankenbenz.  Find this 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL with LS1 offered for $28,000 on craigslist, located in Daytona Beach, FL. This feature is part of DT's Epiphany Special.

This Mercedes-Benz may have started as an R107 generation 450SL, but it is now a Chevy V8 powered monster with custom suspension, and brake parts.  The car has been repainted in its original signal red color, but it looks good in the photos and comes with soft & hard tops.

Forward progress in this Frankenstein's mongrel comes from a Chevrolet LS1 V8 mated to a 4L60E automatic transmission.  The LS1 has Corvette valve covers, but it probably came from a Camaro and could be rated anywhere from 305 to 350 horsepower.  Performance should be good enough to outrun anything from King Herod's stable.

The original Mercedes-Benz interior looks mostly intact and totally stock with the exception of the a gaudy Lokar shifter. MBTex interior will last for years and is much more comfortable than riding on a donkey/camel/mule.

Next up, in walks the third Magus with a gift of Myrrhcury.

  1. Just puzzled why he felt the need to do the hot-rod suspension.

  2. Good stuff DT! Loving the theme.

Are we allowed to speculate about the Myrrh-mobile? Personally, I am expecting a Myrrh-cedes Benz, but it could be a Myrrh-cury Montego. Or how about a Beam-myrrh? This is more fun than regular Christmas!
