This Caravelle is described as a rust free barn find by its seller. According to the license plate sticker it was last on the road around 1986 and it will need some mechanical work before you can enjoy it. The body looks weather worn, but not rusted into the ground, and this could be a good candidate to fix up mechanical parts and leave exterior alone.
The canvas top and interior are described as dried-up by the seller, so budget for all new custom upholstery because you aren't going to find one of these sitting in a junk yard. Power in the Caravelle comes from a 1.1 liter inline four cylinder engine putting out 55 horsepower from its iron block and aluminum head configuration. The seller mentions that the engine starts/runs but will need some head work because of oxidation related issues.

This would be a fantastic candidate for an electric conversion. I wonder how difficult it would be to adapt a recycled Prius battery to a warp motor...
ReplyDeleteI know we need to agree to disagree on the electric conversion question, but once again, I have two words for you: Geo Metro.

Trivia Question: Whats the heavily-patina'd car parked next to it in the 1st photo?

DeleteFor some reason, seeing the three of them together, from that angle, I am reminded of a hoard of Daleks from Dr. Who.... Annihilate, obliterate, destroy!
DeleteThis looks like two different cars: A coupe in the top photo (note window frames and what appears to be rust on rood) and a convertible in the lower photos, which also appears to be a slightly different shade of red.
ReplyDeleteThe ad indicates "Convertible and hard top" so I guess that is a removable hard top, something that I have not seen before on a Caravelle.
