What Am I? Bottoms Up

Welcome to another edition of DT's cure for the Monday morning blues -- What Am I?  In this better than riding on the bus game we find a random picture of a car and you get to guess what it is. Last week, the picture of the footwell of a low mile MX-5 was instantly solved by a reader.  Today's WAI feature is going to be harder.  Just what am I anyway? Update with answer below.

Guess away.  Comments below.

A few sharp eye'd readers immediately suggested Pontiac and Fleetwood T Brougham got really close with his guess of a 1961 Pontiac Ventura, but RyanM solved the puzzle by linking to this 1962 Pontiac Catalina currently bidding for $13,100 reserve-not-met with 6 days to go.  Great work guys!  Last thing -- the Q&A section has a funny exchange with a buyer, read it for a laugh.

Q:  ARE YOUR CRS IN OREGON OR MO? THANKS Oct-17-14
A:  I am in MO, but it doesn't matter for you. I have blocked you from bidding on my auctions. I don't care for guys that put in bogus high bid amounts then cancel them just to get the reserve amount. I also do not like guys that add pennies to their bids. Kind of childish and weird to me. Have a nice day

  1. Ok.. I'll embarrass myself first; I see a domestic V8 with wannabeabadazz headers but no dumps, an automatic transmission, (power steering?) drum front brakes. Color of the oil pan looks Pontiac-ish blue and a battery lead running to the starter that is just waiting to be pulled loose from underneath? I'm guessing '67-68 Pontiac Firebird with a 326 or they would've spent more on the headers. Don't have time to go looking for it though

    1. I take that back on the 'battery lead' can't tell if that's running from the trunk to the starter or just a random bit heading towards the rear. If the battery is in the trunk they're serious about running Joe Dirt hard, which makes the 326 that much more sad.
Can't wait to see how far off this is.. my shame awaits.

    2. My embarrassment is complete. FTB noticed the longer wheelbase and I totally missed the hint of the dumps offered by the red cable. From underneath I doubt there's any difference between a '61 Ventura and a '62 Catalina.

    3. The dumps look like they're of the un-bolt variety vs. electrically controlled... maybe? When I saw that red heavy gauge line I immediately thought "speedometer cable". Perhaps KBZ can do another one of his "enhances" on where that cable terminates as shown in the feature picture?

I'm baffled. Either 6 or 8 cylinders (from this angle it's impossible to tell if there's a single or double tube on the upper row of the headers), drum front brake, very short suspension travel, and a relatively long wheelbase.

    1961 Pontiac Ventura???

    2. Thanks. WhatAmI's like this remind me of why I disable adblock on DT. Nice one guys. It'll be nice to see whether this car goes for DT money, or ends up in the stratosphere as though it were a legit Super Duty vs. a tribute.

    3. Nice detective work FTB and RyanM. This one took a bit longer than the typical 25 seconds, but I think you guys appreciate a harder challenge...right?

    4. It's always fun to learn what unique details about one car make it different than its platform-mate(s). I'm an enthusiast of pedantry, and these recent "What Am I" scavenger hunts check that box.

Sorry for delay---just able to get back and check in---dang---missed it by THAT much. ;-) And yes, I love the challenges like this one with increased degrees of difficulty.
