15k: GTO Judge Styled: 1971 Pontiac LeMans Wagon

The Pontiac GTO was an intermediate sized muscle car built on GM's A-platform, available as a coupe, hardtop or convertible.  The ultimate version of the 2nd generation GTO was the optional Judge package, which added a ram air hood to a high power 455 V8 and some gaudy badges.  Unfortunately the GTO was never available as a wagon, but that didn't stop someone from building one.  Find this 1971 Pontiac LeMans Wagon currently bidding for $12,445 reserve-not-met on eBay, located in Los Angeles, CA with 2 days to go.

According to the VIN, this wagon started life at the Fremont, CA Pontiac factory as a simple 3rd generation Pontiac LeMans 4-door wagon with 3rd row seat, probably powered by a 350 cubic inch (5.7 liter) V8.  Someone has poured a ton of money into this thing to make what you see here.

Under the hood is a 455 cubic inch V8 (that has been "built" out to 471 cubic inches) and is probably good for a few more than the original 355 horsepower from a '71 GTO.  Even with the 4000+ lbs of mass from the giant wagon body, this car should scoot pretty well.

Whoa!! Are we down under?  Nope, just a photo that has been inexplicably mirror flipped.

  2. If this was built in GM's Fremont plant, it's in good company. That building became the NUMMI plant and issued forth the Toyota Corolla, Chevy Nova (Corolla-based), Geo Prism (Corolla-based), Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe (Matrix-based), and Toyota Tacoma. Now it's the Tesla factory and is churning out the Model S.

Can we get an 85 kW-h AWD GTO Judge Wagon "D" edition? How big does the driver's "D" need to be?

    1. Love this beast!

@CFlo - if you (or anyone) haven't listened to this before, the This American Life episode about the NUMMI plant (and its pre-NUMMI days) is worth checking out... it was a very different animal before Toyota got involved, apparently: NUMMI
