5k: Swedish Seige Machine: 1963 Volvo Laplander L3314 C202

The Volvo Laplander L3314 was a cab-forward light duty vehicle build in Sweden for military use and later sold to civilians as the C202.  The Laplander shares its B18 inline-4 cylinder with all sorts of Volvo passenger vehicles (PV544, P210, 120/122 Amazon, P1800 and 140 sedan).  Find this 1963 Volvo Laplander L3314 offered for $7750 via craigslist.

This quasi-convertible topped "Jeep" (for lack of a better descriptor) won't be the most bullet proof (in a literal sense) vehicle, but it will be great for moderate off-roading use while getting decent gas mileage.  As a bonus the car comes equipped with a shovel as a hood ornament.

The Laplander (aka Valp - "puppy" in Swedish) is powered by a Volvo B18A 4-cylinder engine which should be good for about 75 horsepower in single carburetor configuration.  Expect leisurely performance, but you can count on many hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles if properly maintained.  Unfortunately from the pictures it is difficult to tell how many soldiers (or kids) can be legally loaded into this thing for legal road use.

See a better way to drive slowly and enjoy it?  tips@dailyturismo.com
