5k: Green Longroof: 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon Wagon

It never fails to happen.  Post a nice looking car for a decent price and suddenly a better one will pop up in the tips.  We could post a running/driving $1k short wheelbase 911 and someone would find a $500 example with nicer pictures.  The wagon from yesterday was offered for a very reasonable price, but this next one is offered for less, but is it a better deal?  Find this 1967 Volvo Amazon Wagon offered for $5,000 via craigslist, located in Port Angeles, WA.  Tip from Andrey.

The Amazon was known as the 120/122S/123GT around the world because German motorcycle manufacturer Kreidler had copyright on the name Amason, so Volvo agreed to use the spelling Amazon locally in Sweden and call it the 120-series elsewhere.

The color combination on this wagon is about perfect, dark green over saddle/tan works really well.  The seller admits that the interior needs some work to get it nice and the paint is far from perfect.  The seller has owned the car since 1983, so with any luck it will come with some spare parts and some old photos.

The seller also mentions that the rebuilt B20 engine is starting to show to signs of excess blowby.  At first glance it looks like a steal, but with some more digging it appears that this is priced according to its condition.  Still...$5k doesn't buy much these days...

See a better deal on an Amazon wagon...there's always a better deal.  tips@dailyturismo.com

  1. Hey, we can't leave this pretty wagon without a comment!

Very nice, and practically pocket change in today's market. I would be happy to drive this, even as a daily driver (I don't do a lot of miles anymore). Sadly, up here in the rust belt, I probably would put it away for the winter, which is sad, cuz that is part of the car's natural domain.

Which long-roof is the better deal, I dunno, but I welcome observations by the marque-informed.

  2. Writing this as the guy who owns the red one for sale. I get a lot of complements on the car. Personally I think the dark green is the best color these came in.

. The dark green is gorgeous but so is red. I'm also very partial to the very pale mint green, which is the color of the first Amazon I owned. If there were not three Volvos in the stable already, the easy choice for me would be to buy them both. Like Bobinott, I chafe at the notion of not driving the car year round.
