10k: Long Hood: 1969 Cadillac Eldorado

The Cadillac Eldorado was originally built as a convertible halo car on the Series 62 platform in 1953, but became its own unique model in 1967 when it was transferred to a front-drive platform and designated a personal luxury coupe where it survived until 2002.  The big front drive beast won't have good handling characteristics, but anything full sized from the same era is such a turd in the turns that you won't be able to tell the difference.  Rear-wheel-drive, front-wheel-drive, squid-wheel-drive (which is when you have a car that rides on live giant squid instead of tires)...you probably won't be able to tell the difference.   Find this 1969 Cadillac Eldorado offered for $11,000 via craigslist, located in the SF Bay Area.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

This Eldorado is powered by a 472 cubic inch V8 that produces 375 horsepower and 525 ft-lbs of tire smoking torque.  The engine is mounted longitudinal and is mated to a 3-speed automatic transaxle (turbo hydramatic 425) via a planetary gear-set and some kind of crazy chain drive setup.

The interior isn't in particularly good shape in this car, the frankly the asking price is a bit high, especially when you consider this 1969 Cadillac Eldorado (with '68 hidden grill treatment) that just finished bidding on ebay at $5,200.  Use this sort of data as a bargaining technique and see what you can do?

  1. The Eldonado were quite attractive for their time.

Cornering hard in one was, of course, a prayer to the Gods of Tire Engineering. But then as you noted that's true of most of the spot-welded pachyderms of the day, it was after all GM that came up with front suspension geometry that actually induced POSITIVE camber change with body roll, ostensibly to improve straight-line stability, but at the cost of creating 4700lb of steel that could not turn at speed.
