15k: Shark Fin Soup: 1974 BMW 3.0 CS Coupe

The BMW E9 generation coupe is a gorgeous collectible classic, but prices can be affordable if you know where to look.  Part of the reason was that BMW sold 30,000 of the Karmann coachbuilt beauties and that means there are plenty for almost every budget.  Find this 1974 BMW 3.0 CS coupe currently bidding on ebay for a very reasonable $13,001 with a few hours to go, located in Beverly Hills, CA.

This model was a kind of update/extension of the previous 2000CS Neue Klasse coupe and evolved from an original Bertone design, but with an extended wheelbase and nose to fit inline 6-cylinder engines.  It is one of the most beautiful BMW designs from the late 60s and will be a collectable classic for decades.

Under the hood is a 3.0 liter inline-6 good for 170 horsepower and 185 ft-lbs of torque when fed via twin carburetors.  This one is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox and should be fun for a weekend cruiser.  Production of the "big six" M30 engines started in 1968 and continued all the way through 1994.

See a cooler current and future classic for less?

  1. The spare tire replacement bit, the apparent rust, and the shabby bits along with no pictures of the shock towers all militate for a thorough ppi and leakdown test. Bring an ice pick

  2. Description says its "...been upgraded to a 5 speed"

  3. Just went for $18,211
